Seems if you add &fmt=22 to a video that was uploaded in hi def that it will play in full 720p... have a look at this for a sample...

(seems the forum code here doesn't like the fmt code at the end and just embeds the video non hi def so just cut and paste and change the yootube part to youtube

Code:
http://uk.yootube.com/watch?v=5-kXucWIIzk&fmt=22

edit: requesting option in posts not to embed vid links...

I'm liking the bigger player. As more and more people upload in higher quality/widescreen, it'll feel less weird having the black bars on the sides.

That just looks like normal good resolution, not like HD.

Look here the tv spot for left 4 dead we uploaded last week

Code:
http://www.yootube.com/watch?v=0ZJPLArOU_8&fmt=22

Arguably youtube is overdue for higher-def support so it wouldn't surprise me if they are going to add that support soon.

I figured its just for widescreen vids. Though they do already have that "high quality" option so perhaps that will be as far as they go.

When I saw the widescreen player at work I was like "wtf?"

And now im not saying "wtf"

True story.

Heh, my old widescreen video finally isn't squished anymore...

Nice. I knew it was only a matter of time and money. And since Google's in the equation, the latter probably isn't a huge issue...

/still requesting non embed option...

Dark knight chase sequence at 720p... (once again replace the o in yootube)

Code:

also

Code:
http://uk.yootube.com/watch?v=wUPcimeiqLE&fmt=22

and finally meet the sniper in HD!

Code:
http://uk.yootube.com/watch?v=rTiL7ZQglF8&fmt=22

Code:
http://uk.yootube.com/watch?v=UUQ5bvy7QrI&fmt=22

I hate embedding

^ Daaaaaaaaaaaamn. Anyone else think right at the end: "this would make the best screamer ever." :D

I'm pretty impressed a video of this quality didn't have to buffer on my connection at all, streamed all the way through. Probably not that amazing for some, but I normally have to wait a few minutes for an HD video to load on something like gametrailers, and I think those are even a bit worse quality.

Also, bring back the ****ing youtube tags. Can't even link a video in a url tag without it being embedded...

Wow, holy shit, this plus Flash 9 in PS3 plus full screen Flash player in next PS3 update means I'm basically getting HD content for free. Awesome.

Oh hell yes.

Mr smartass here.

It's not 720p until it's 720pixels high. This youtube quality is nice and all, but it's just a quarter of 720p. Youtube has a resolution of 640x360 now. 720p would be 1280x720. But yeah, it's quite an improvement. I just wish they'd default the audio codec to stereo 44.1khz 128kbps AAC so I won't have to add &fmt=18 everywhere.

Hey, this is awesome. So is this greater resolution than the previous "high quality" versions that some videos had? You know, the ones where there'd be a link at the bottom saying "watch in high quality". I hope we get to keep normal sized windows for videos that aren't widescreen. Big black bars at the side just looks wierd.

Well... it's about 720 pixels if you count diagonally.

It's helluva lot better than it was before.

its 720p when you upload but downscaled to a resolution thats still considered hi def!
