Is it just me, or do the zombies sound more "human" in this game than in HL1? In the first game, the sounds were a lot more reminiscent of headcrabs, especially the pain noises. It just creeped me out when I set a zombie on fire in Ravenholm for the first time and it started crying out in pain until it died, it sounded like the guy underneath the headcrab was yelling. Maybe they're trying to suggest that the victim is still somehow conscious, just being controlled?

Something like that. Creeps me out when they scream "aaaah! get it of me!"

It is conscious, it knows what's going on, it wishes it could stop it but it can't. It's trapped in itself.
Thinking about it makes me nauseated, but it's true. That's why I hated using fire on these guys, thinking of the pain they are already going through, and then making it 1000 times worse. If I didn't have a handy sawblade to swiftly destroy them, I always made sure my crowbar hits were on the crab.

Yeah they sometimes scream in ways which almost sound like words...especially as Atomi mentioned.
Really the people must be there on some level. Why would a headcrab scream through a humans lungs and mouth.

Isn't it awesome when a game can make you feel sympathy for the enemies? Valve really did a top notch job.

Shoot a zombie in the leg/body, they moan human feeling. "Ohhhh Owww"

Shoot the headcrab itself, and you get the alien squeel.

The people still have feeling.

I can't remember exactly what they say, but sometimes they scream stuff like, I think, "God help me!" or just scream crazy painful sentences. I remember back when I first saw the Ravenholm bink I was totally absorbed into the whole horror of it when you first go through the small wooden house, and you can hurl the saw blades at them. They seem to enjoy screaming when on fire.

I felt kind of f*cked up by killing them there, but when I was in the sewers later on, wow, I just hated them. Scar-ee, seeing them all rise from the water.

Once I got the .357, I killed every one of those zombies that I could with a single shot to the head, rather than burn them or fill them full of holes...so yea, I felt really bad for them.

After paying through a few times I find myself kinda creeped out by the zombies, and even more creeped out by the fact that I didn't mind giving them buzz cuts.
