I think some people have had luck disabling sound via the console. Is Half Life 2 fully updated? Maybe re-validating your files will help.

Could it possibly be on steam before it's out retail? Maybe Valve has thier release date (via steam) and EA has thier release date (via retail).

Did you install any new software/hardware?? Maybe your PC is over heating. But like Ultima said If you could play HL2 before with no problem, once your problem gets fixed you should have no problem.

I think its just "bait" to see if people will buy on the microtransaction model. I think everyone should not buy them, and show them microtransactions will not work. All the more reason to love Valve...!

Couldn't you just tell him to google "half life 2" and "demo"?? I mean thats why they have demos, so people can "try before they buy" I mean if he's really a daff then you could download the demo and burn that onto a cd for him.

Maybe instead of editing all the maps & textures the color of the blood could be changed??? I have no idea why someone would want to do this..They want to shoot people..but not see the blood...?

I don't know about modifying any files but if you download the Substance mod that does make the game very hard.
