Okay, today, I get back from my long tiresome day after last night going to a brilliant concert by the darkness in perth, and I go to check the forums on this somewhat decent game I bought (oblivion - a rpg in the elderscrolls series), and guess what... Bethesda (the developer) is charging $2 US (almost 4 dollars australian) for two crappy horse armours within two weeks of the release as "pay-per-plugin" modifications...

And did I think boycott!...

So anyway, cheers valve I love you so much for respecting the world of videogames, and giving us thousands of updates and info and everything about your games, your passions and your lives! Keep up the good work. Just think all those maps you made... all those models... all those free updates... and then there's companies like Bethesda that charge almost 1/25 of the price of a game with 100,000 plus things in it for 2 new meshes... Oh the horror! Anyway, I LOVE YOU VALVE! Keep up the great work, and you can have my money... unlike some 'other' people that call themselves 'developers'. *cough* *splutter* *pay-per-plugin*

Yeah, as I sait on another forum, it makes Valve look like angels.

lol what's the problem?
just don't buy them - you're not women, you don't have to buy every goddamn thing you see, show a little self restraint

But it's just a testement. You wouldn't like it if Steam made you buy new CSS or DoDS maps.

That is a valid point, but I feel like what I bought wasn't the finished thing.

If they have been able to let people buy them now, then they would have been able to put them into the final game anyway. So, that means, they knew they were always going to be charging people for this "extra-content".

I'm sure some people will happily pay, I won't as I don't buy everything I see. I am merely commenting on how much I thank Valve for being great developers, and nice to their customers.

I think its just "bait" to see if people will buy on the microtransaction model. I think everyone should not buy them, and show them microtransactions will not work. All the more reason to love Valve...!

Give it time....

episodic content anyone....
But that's different. Episodic content is new levels and a new game, technically. This Oblivion thing is just an add-on or a plug-in.

but is it really that different especially if it is expanded to all future valve products.
what about getting a new CSS map a month?
what about getting 2 hours worth of HL3 at a time?

where do you draw the line - as long as people will pay, it will only grow and people like me who grew up gaming in epic style will walk away disgusted

$20 for 4-6 hours of gameplay (plus at least another 4 for those who listen to the comentry) plus 2 multiplayer games compared to...armour for your horse for $2. Do you think those are proportional?
