"Voters in Georgia and Kentucky approved constitutional amendments Tuesday to ban same-sex marriage, with similar results expected in most of the nine other states considering such measures"

even though it's just state constitutional amendment it's a step in the wrong direction:

"Conservatives say they will continue to press for a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, on the premise that even toughly worded bans in state constitutions could be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court "

never thought I'd see the day when they legalize descrimination

Or admend the constution to restrict rights :(

why are you sad?

"as of this day forth no muslim shall be able to get married in any sense of the word ...because they are muslim"

how would you feel hasan if that was made into law?

read CptStern's post. though I doubt you would be.

Ya, I was reading about that. I guess there are 11 states in all that have bans on the ballot.

What a wonderful day it is. The smell of democracy and freedom burning over the fire is so pleasent, isn't it?

I'm pretty confident that the supreme court will overturn them eventually though. It might even take years, but I have some hope that things will be put right. After all, every liberal change in our past like women suffrage and the black civil rights movement prevailed. I don't see why this should be any different.

Gay marriage is different, some people think it is morally wrong and others think it is uneccesary and will be abused.

yes but in the meantime people's rights get trampled ..I think this will further legitamize some people's view that homosexuals are not entitled to the same rights as heterosexuals

Some people think being gay is moraly wrong, or some people do it for attention, and that it is a mental illness. No one thought being a woman was any of those, so this could easily be different.

gayness is not a religion or a race, it's a psychological illness.
it fall in the drug addiction category, not the minorities one.
would I be sad if drugs are banned? (which they already are), ofcourse not.

but hey whatever, it's your society, so mess it up all you want. I can't force you to go by my moral code, but it doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion.

let me emphasise that I'm not trying to force anythin on anyone. just saying what I think.

Great. Another gay marrage thread. Just what we needed.

I'm gonna sum up the be all end all to this argument and watch all the Fundimentalists ignore it:

Your religion does not own the concept of marrage.
Marrage cannot be bound by the decrees of your religion.

some people think the mentally handicapped should be sterilized and institutionalised

some people think it's ok to physically abuse their spouses and children

some people think slamming a plane full of people into tall builings was a good idea

doesnt make it right

There was a study about this. There are lots of mental illnesses like this, caused by how you are raised.

some parts of canada (some would argue the important parts) allow same sex marriages

that's fine, but please dont spread the misconception that it is a mental illness...until the entire medical community prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is a mental illness I will continue to believe that it is normal to be gay

Do you think it is normal to be sexually attracted to your mother? sister? How about having an obsession with killing people?

CptStern, are you saying that the medical community has proven byond doubt that it is normal and healthy to be gay?

how about the fact that there are ex-gays? if anything at all, it should allow you to see some valid reasons for the opinion that it's an illness.

Who are we to tell these people who they can and can't be? Homosexuality does not hurt anyone nor cause retarded children through reproduction. :P

It's pretty conclusive that it is a genetically inherited trait.

No, but the constitution controls it for this country and this goes against the constitution.

Damned straight. Theres just no reason to be down on them for being different.

If it is an illness. It's an illness that has no cure. Do you go around telling people with cancer that they can't be themselves so long as it hurts no one?

And on a more comical note. For us heterosexuals: who cares? More for us if you know what I mean. :naughty:

That's open to interpretation. I'm also with Hasan on this one.

ah come on that's completely different ...homosexuality exists in the animal kingdom in just as many numbers as humans

there is new evidence that proves it is an evolutionary step:

"The primary function that same-sex attraction provides, scientists like Roughgarden argue, is that it promotes the formation of alliances that help the parties involved outlive, outperform and even outreproduce competitors.

"For another thing, they say bisexuals far outnumber homosexuals. This idea allows them to raise the possibility that an animal could use benefits gained from a homosexual liaison, such as higher status, to reproduce more or care for offspring better. "

Exactly how are two men banging eachother in a cloest going to outreproduce anything?

That doesn't make sense at all, how do they outreproduce? Producing mass amount of STDs doesn't count either, because we all know how good they are at that.

I think there's a bit of hypocrisy about this subject.

Most guys don't like to hear about other gay guys and such...but I bet they don't have any problems with lesbians (hot ones that is). So, if you don't like gays, then you shouldn't like hot lesbians either...but I know you do!

back up your claim, prove gays are more prone to stds than heteros are

Heh, doesn't mean I don't think it's wrong. I try not to watch/dl lesbian porn...but sometimes I do.
