2 new 'expansions' announced

this is going to be interesting to say the least...hopefully they will spend more time on these than BF2 and SF combined :|

"The expansion packs in the Battlefield series have new maps, vehicles and weapons. Each Battlefield booster pack will have new but fewer maps, vehicles and weapons. Instead they are sold to a lower price: 9.99 USD."

Lol, for $10 I doubt EA will let DICE put any real content into these "boosters." I'm done after I recieve SF.

I haven't even brought SF yet... and i don't think i plan too really...
Doubt i'll get any of these unless one of my local stores does a BOGOF deal ;) :P

Still don't have SF...probably won't get it.

BUT ILL BUY THE BOOSTERS AMFEG!

not really.

wow...hey EA, how about slowing down and delivering some quality over quantity? sheesh.

This is pissing me off.

They sell you a game, then try to sell you "upgrades" for an unpolished game.

Zomg, well, my BF2 has SF, the Guided Rocket, AND the Laser AA turret add ons!

I dont think Ill be buying these, even if I did buy SF.

EA, what the hell are you thinking?

Patch BF2 before you release any more of these weird things please.

The news shouldn't be surprising, I mean just look at how EA has handled The Sims 1 / 2. Milking franchises with expansion packs takes higher priority over the quality of a game.

This is EA's entire business strategy. They've stated it themselves. They come out with 1 new game a year and the rest of their games (25 in 2005) are sequels. As a publically traded company, their #1 priority is to make money for the shareholders of the stock. That sort of conflicts with gamers interests, which are to play the best high quality games. As long as we keep shelling out $50 bucks for buggy games, they are going to keep selling them. The only way to send a message to them is don't buy EA games.. That's the one and only way... All the bickering on forums doesn't mean squat when they sell milllions of a $50 game and only a measly handleful of people go through with their boycott. (Check totalbf2.com or Planet Battlefield and it's actually funny that all those people who swore they would boycott the expansion went and bought it)

The stock symbol is ERTS if you want to check it out. Doing a simple google search for " EA sequels 'business plan' " or "EA sequels" will give you a ton of information. It does seem like gamers aren't happy with EA, but like I said, if everyone keeps buying their games.. they are going to keep selling them.

Hah! They're milking it just like the original.

I feel sorry for some of the fans.

you know I wouldnt mind so much if this didnt fracture the community, works WITH the original game (why the **** do I have to quit SF everytime a SF map is thrown into the rotation?) and featured more than just a few vehicles and weapons ..what about a new game type? objectives SOMETHING to change up the gameplay a bit

Like King of the Hill!...Actually, that sounds like a pretty good freaking idea IMHO.

But anyway, I'm holding steady on my SF boycott. I've not bought it, and don't plan to. I hate playing only infantry maps, then adding the damn helis and more armor in to the mix, screw that.

bought it for christmas but only played a handful of times ...WoW is sucking me into it's addictive web again

info on booster packs:

Euro Force will be released on February 8th and sees the introduction of the all-new European Army in 3 new maps. Each Euro soldier will come equipped with a new primary weapon, from the FNP90 to the Benelli Tactical Shotgun. There will also be 4 new vehicles, including the (in)famous Eurofighter. The 3 maps are "Operation Smoke Screen", "The Great Wall of China" and "Taraba Quarry".

Armored Fury will be released on March 28th and the focus is on large mechanized battles, harking back to the El Alamein style maps on BF1942. There will be 3 new maps - "Midnight Sun", "Operation Harvest" and "Operation Road Rage" - but also 2 new vehicle classes. Attack Jets and Recon Helicopters, which can spot nearby enemy units, will make their debut.

I might get these... seeing as they're so cheap.
Maybe. I dunno.

...I fail to see how this is a bad thing. I mean, we like Valve for doing the same thing (Aftermath), so why do we hate EA for it?

I'm not going to complain that they're going to make more maps and weapons and sell them for dirt cheap. According to the descriptions their intent is also to offer up maps and scenarios with new types of gameplay (such as the mechanized scenarios they're going for with Armored Fury). Now, I do agree that if I'm going to buy them I'd like to see some technical improvements over SF.

And don't argue that it takes time away from patching the game itself, because its total nonsense (seperate teams and all that).

FAMAS

The FAMAS is a French made assault rifle. Its development began in the late 60’s and it is in wide usage within the French military today. It uses a bullpup layout with the magazine at the back of the gun, behind the trigger and fires standard 5.56mm NATO round. Its low damage is balanced by its high rate of fire.

P90

The P90 was developed specifically as a PDW for vehicle crew members such as tank drivers. The P90 has very good power for its size and uses an SS190 round. It features a polymer stock with downward ejection of spent cases.

Because EA has a tendency to box up crap that should have been in the original game (or material that is truly crap) and call it an expansion.

The saving grace is that this shit's cheap, but I wonder if it's even worth the purchase. Valve may do something similar, but their efforts seem more genuinely content-driven as opposed to extraneous bullshit, therefore justifying the price tag.

Booster pack looks very good imo, much better value than SF, and for £6, will be getting it

I'm gonna put a "maybe" on these. The 2nd booster pack sounds interesting with the recon helos. Sounds like something I might like.

Booster packs, What the **** next... Battlefield 2 : CARD BATTLES?!

Hey... if it's cheap i'll buy it! :D

Come on guys... £6 (about $10) is nothing to pay for what they're giving.

wow.
how do you go off comparing EA to Valve??
EA couldn't touch Valve in any way shap or form.

Valve does not even release games at the same rate as EA does (thats a good thing btw) and oh..lets not even get into the whole quality versus quantity arguement.
as for more expansions or whatever else to them i say "no thanks"
until they address the issues with the main game, i will avoid all expansions like the plague.

Well well, my favourite gun is getting a big brother, the L85A2, WITH A NADE LAUNCHER! Too bad they're castrating the nade launcher's awesomeness...guess its for the best.

Dont have a credit card, so this exclusively online thing wont be getting my support. Im not all that adverse to paying for a new gameplay experience, but i wont go out of my way to get this...

Well thats something to consider when they come out. In the meantime its not bad to know they're working on something. If they suck, then we just don't buy them.

The AWP and the P90 are the new weapons
Its turning into counterstrike :|
wonder will they only be available to those who buy the booster packs - knowing EA probably

Why..WHY Can't we use those Weapons we get in those packs with Normal BF2?!,...I SO Want to use the L85/SA-90 Series of Weapons more...

well you probably can - you just have to buy it first :/
personally i think its great that they integrated the sf unlocks into bf2 - it keeps the community together and it didnt really change anything :)

Agreed.. i'll never buy BF2 - hate it lol :P

I just sent my brother to go buy SF for me. Yeah, impulse buy.
I'll post some screenshots maybe :)

Woo. You and I can play SF together sometime away from all these haters. I really like the infantry battles in SF and I have a blast playing it. There was one guy this last game I just played that kept trying to noob tube and I just said, "Enjoy noob tubing while you can, your time is running out"

He replied " ;( "

:D

Couple more gold medals and a couple hundred more points for moi :)

Time for food and running.

I say **** You Dice and **** you EA, your BF2 is enough for me.....:|
