ive got 2 .tga textures in a multi/sub-object shader in max. how do i export them and what's the code for my .vmt so my model uses them both in hl2?

I'm not sure/doubtful max supports multi sub objects
 
i export all my materials as a multi/sub-object with the material-ID set to 1.

So you have a model that has two textures/materials applied to it?

I've exported models like this before and I did it the same way as I do with a model with only one texture. The QC file is the same too. The only thing I think you have to make sure is that the textures (when made to VTF) are in the same folder, unless you can specify multiple texture directories in the QC file.
 
you mean that i export the smd in max with 2 textures and when ive exported them I put them in the same folder and it works?

Yeah. It should work anyway, I can't think of anything I might have missed. Oh, and when I said VTF I meant VMT. Got them the wrong way around.
