So I was playing Blue Shift and it convinced me to come forth with this idea.

The Black Mesa Source team has made a more expanded version of BM. Basically we play through HL1 all over again, and we're all looking forward to it.

I was wondering what you all would think of a mod where you play in a pre-cascade Black Mesa as one of the teams. It's a slower paced mod where you solve puzzles to do scientific experiments, watch some scripted stuff, walk around the labs, and get teleported to Xen to set up stuff and collect things like animals and crystals. Maybe at the end of it the RC happens (or not) and you have to evacuate and have a few tasks centered around that.

Seems to slow paced for the Half Life universe, being a shooter, but might work out interestingly enough.

I'd definaly play it. It would be cool to experience black mesa and do puzzles. Shame it will never happen

Well, I'd have to talk to the BM:S team about it; a tandem mod once theirs is done would probably work out best.

It will need a lot of work, so it won't be easy to convince them.

Remaking OP4 or BS is far more likely.

I like the idea.

What I'd suggest is to make the mod using current HL2 placeholders. Get the levels made in either orange map or placeholder textures (you could even use HL textures until you had the HL2 ports). Get all the physics puzzles made using placeholder elements. Get all the code and AI scripting in.

Once this is done, (or once you have a good amount done and a solid, tight, committed dev team on board), approach the BM team and ask permission to use their art assets, giving them full credit in your mod.

It's how modding used to be done. In the days of Quake someone would make a new gun (the airfist I recall was a good example) and then people would make single-player weapon/enemy addon kits that used other people's work. In the credits you'd always be able to find out who made each part.

Good idea. But ideas of this sort are always poorly executed by amateur mod team.

Hmm... it does seem quite slow-paced. Especially for Half-Life. It does sound interesting. Although Half-Life's always been based around the alien invasion. Fighting off zombies and all that.

It'd be quite interesting being a scientist, after the resonance cascade, however.

oh i forgot, you mean there not as good as professional mod teams !? ...like they exist anyway ...
