A small number? Just how small is it?

Ya I'm a newb here. So what? Anyway here is a post about the bugs HL2 has right now and the fact Valve is looking into the sound problem:

Restart Steam, there's a new update ready.
A small number of Half-Life 2 customers have been experiencing problems while playing the game, and we have traced these issues to corrupt Steam cache files. We've released a Steam update to help resolve these issues. If you have been experiencing problems such as crashing during gameplay or startup of Half-Life 2, please restart Steam and then click on one of the links below. Steam will then automatically verify your cache files. The verification process will take roughly five minutes to complete. We're also investigating a solution for the sound skipping problems a small number of users are running into. We'll have a solution for this as soon as possible.
Validate Half-Life 2
Validate Counter Strike: Source
Validate Half-Life: Source

The sentence that grabs my attention is this:

We're also investigating a solution for the sound skipping problems a small number of users are running into.

The person who posted this on this site has this problem. I have this problem. Just how small a number is this?

So who is having this problem? Who is not?

I'm just curious. Not really pissed at Valve or anything. I love this game and even though it crashes because of the sound every so often and I have to hard boot my system I still think the game is good enough to make up for this shortcoming. I hope they fix it but I am just curious how small this number really is.

yeah i thought everyone gets it too. Dont know how this could have bi-passed so many reviewers...strange

there will be a patch for the stuttering problem. it comes out tomorrow.

i do have that problem too... but i reduced it a lil bit by defragmentating(right?) and loaded more ram into the game "-heapsize 256000" ^^

Not a problem here.

Usually a small group with a loud voice is thought to be larger than it actually is.

The vast majority of players are happily playing HL2. Its only a small minority of people that have to come to to forums to whine/ask for help.

the stuttering sound is a common problem. i'd say that most, if not all, users have it, with varying degrees of severity. it's very minor for me, but it's still there. hopefully the patch helps.

Game play is completely smooth for me. No complaints here.

As for Valve saying "small numbers", give 'em a break. It's PR.

I am happily playing it too. I just liked their choice of words and was curious. Someone pointed out I should have made a poll. I still might do that just to appease my curiosity.

No stuttering on my PC.

P4 2.53 GHz
1GB RAM
Windows XP Home
SB Audigy 2
ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256MB

Isn't for me i get the sound stuttering but i dont have much Ram i only have 256MB so can partially blame that. If i have more Ram will I be able to run it at higher settings i have a 2.4GHZ and a 9800Pro and running it on medium - Low so will more Ram allow me too run it Medium - High?

Only had it skip once or twice on loading a level or during a big graphic shift (corridor to big outdoor scene).

other than that, been seamless.
