in far cry high dynamic range is added does half life 2 also support high dynamic range?

Engine supports it but it is not used in Half-Life 2 at current...

i thought it was in hl2. isn't HDR the effect of looking out a window or hole in the ceiling and seeing nothing but light until you get closer and your eyes adjust? Could've sworn i saw it used

That was just a fake bloom effect, Debris.

Pretty well done, but fake.

Actually that effect is quite sneaky as
a) it looks cool
b) saves some frames as your pc doesn't have to render the outside

it was ok, until you stood outside a tunnel and looked right through it, and you could still see the light bloom at the end, which doesn't make much sense.

engine is capeable, but the game doesnt use it. its like quake enginme can stick people to walls like skulk in ns, but there is no such feature in regular halflife that uses quake engine. see?

No HDR in Half Life 2 yet.

Source supports HDR. Just wantst used in hl2. Watch the source engine tech demo.

The HDR in FarCry is a bit of a mess, just a little experiment more than anything else. If VALVe implement it in Half-Life 2 I hope they do a proper job of it.
