Does anyone have this problem?
I bough the game friday and played for like two hours without problems but today, i get about 10 minutes of gameplay then my computer freezes and I have to reboot it.

At first i tried updating my video card drivers put it still freezes, any input?

I have a sempron 3100 (1.8ghz)
1gig of ram (don,t know what kind though, and I have two differents ram cards)
a 160 gb harddrive.
A geforce 5500 fx with up to date drivers
and windows XP (sp2).

maybe the GFX card is overheating, or could possibly be a memory conflict as u say u have 2 diff sets of ram int here, try taking one stick out & see if it plays?

I removed a memory stick and it didn't freeze.
Hurray! Now everything is lagging!

Plus, episode one (and the other half life games? I'd have to check) is the only program that gives me hard times with my memory like this.

I get the lock ups too, I'm guessing my issue would be over heating, I played HL2: Ep1 great first time through, now on the secound it just locks up and jitters and crashes and makes me nutty, same game settings, no changes.

ASUS A8N-SLi Premium, AMD 64 3200+ Venice core
512x2 CORSAIR XMS DDR400 PC3200-Latency 2-3-3-6
ATI Radeon X800 XL 256MB DDR3
WD Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA
500W Power Supply

has to be the heat I think.

not sure, it could be because u was using 2 diff memory modules, i once had this issue. Different timings & crap all can contribute to unstable PC.

Maybe u ought to invest in some more ram ie 1GB corsair matching modules.

Have u defrag ur hd as well as the game files through steam?

Have u changed any dirvers?

Make sure u scan for viruses, malware etc.

yeah I have done the works, thats why I'm just assuming its the heat, I am in California too and in lovely triple digit heat, so my room is around 90, afraid to look what my Computer is at

try playing with the case side off, have u any fans inside the case intaking & exhausting air?

yup, the whole front on the case is a screen, on the front is an intake fan, and a large fan on the back blowing out

i like how you called it "Aftermath"....anyway, the obvious question...have you overclocked at all? maybe you just have an unstable OC.....otherwise, lower ur settings if you haven't all ready....and make sure no process heavy programs are open while you play... i know that the alerts that pop-up from MSN and AIM tend to lag my games

I did.
I usually even reboot before playing to make sure nothing is running and everything is fine.
My computer is not overclocked or anything like that.

Anyways, I removed the memory sticks but Lost a lot of performance.
I'll put it back when I have finished the game. still sucks though...

Also. For the first two hours of gameplay, my game was very stable, it got unstable i would say in the part where you're underground with all the lights off.
