Just a simple question: Will Half Life 2: Aftermath be tacked onto the end of Half Life 2 when you install it? Or will you have to run a seperate game? Because, when it comes out, I plan to play the entire game through in a 20-or-so hour session. It would spoil it a bit if I had to quit to desktop and load a new game up just to play Aftermath.

My suggestions are: Screen goes black as Gman walks away...then Aftermath kicks in after 30 seconds of sound effects...or something along those lines. What do you think?

And now, to avoid another thread, and seeing as there is no forum for it: The Loast Coast is set from Gordon's viewpoint...so, if we are to be true fanboys, can it be assumed he did this during the events of Half Life 2? Which could mean it is put in the game....somehow.... I'm just theorising here.

Sounds like a good idea. I hope it does carry on, as like you said exiting to the desktop would spoil it a bit. Ah well we'll have to wait and see.

I don't like it, if it's Gordon (refuse to believe it is) it would remend me of how stupid it is, if it isn't it would take away from imersion suddenly swithching.

The script showed up in some file recently: there is a line that suggests that Gordon is washed ashore or something. My personal guess is that it's just another HL2 episode: Gordon is let out of captivity to perform a little task, he turns up washed ashore and completes it.

The "lost" coast doesn't appear to be anything to do with the coastline of HL2 - no Buggy for starters. Also, the implication of the script is that the fisherman who accompanies you has a scottish accent (keeps calling you "laddie" for starters) and is free from the shackles of Combine rule. So it appears that it's set around the time of HL2 but in a different locality.

I highly doubt that Aftermath will be plugged on the end of HL2. For starters that would increase the size of the content you absolutely must have on your HDD when you should be able to have aftermath alone (though an expansion, steam will know if you own HL2, and there is about 800megs of HL2 specific stuff that doesn't really need to be installed to play anything HL2 based). Also, doing so would be a bad buisness mode: the implication is that you have to pay to patch the end of the game on, when that end should have been on there in the first place. That's a buisness practice that Valve will want to avoid.

I didn't see it from that aspect before...I guess so. Maybe it is still accessed from the same in-game menu, like many other expansions. Although Black & White / Creature Isle are too different games. I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

And where can I get this aforementioned script?

It'd be nice to have the option to either play right after the game ended or through another standalone game. Like if at the end of the credits of HL2, LaMarr has a tattoo that you can click on that will start Aftermath.

Ah, that's pretty cool. I look forward to the scene that is hinted at there. :A beach being shelled... that better be in there.

The extra content for Aftermath could be packed up into its own GCF, which would only be downloaded by those who'd actually purchased Aftermath, much like say, German language assets are only downloaded by those who set their Steam language to German, it wouldn't necessarily have to increase the size of the HL2 base content set at all.

It most likely will be one of the things listed below...
-Be separate from Hl2, meaning you need to load up HL2:AM rather than just HL2
-It will be included with-in HL2, but it will be a separate option, such as what OperationFlashpoint did with its expansions
-Or, it will become availible in the 'Start New Game' maps list, if youve beaten the game. If you havent beaten the game, itll become availible after you beat the game.
