Personally I'm torn between the following:

Cold War Kids - Robbers And Cowards

Been following them a while, and this album brings together the EPs/demos, adds a few new tracks, and simply ace production, without loosing the intensity of the demos..
Best described.. Jeff Buckley meets Tapes N Tapes.
Standout track.. Tell Me In The Morning

OR

The Sunshine Underground - Raise The Alarm

Simply put, one of the best live bands around, dance-punk fever, catchy riffs and songs. Dancable indie is always good, especially when it's done this well. The album captures the energy and intensity of their live performances with ease.
Best described.. A harder, meaner and northern British Rapture
Standout track.. Borders

RUNNERS UP

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What I'm Not
Hot Chip - The Warning
Milburn - Well Well Well
White Rose Movement - Kick
The Long Blondes - Someone To Drive You Home
The Blood Arm - Lie Lover Lie

How bout you?

2007 is shaping up to be really exciting..plenty of good albums to look forward to!

Didn't buy too many albums thid year, but these are the ones that stood out:

Sikth -- Death of a Dead Day
Mastodon -- Blood Mountain
The Mars Volta -- Amputechture
Tool -- 10,000 Days

I'd like to reserve a special place for Amplifier's new album though, which I keep meaning to buy. >.<

Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of This Country
Cat Power - The Greatest
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

Haven't got too many CDs from this year though, mostly worked on everything Pre-2000.

Been quite a few crackers this year.

Isis - In The Absence of Truth
Mogwai - Mr. Beast
The Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
The Mars Volta - Amputechture
Squarepusher - Hello Everything
Jesu - Silver (alright, it's an EP, but whatever)
Hot Chip - The Warning
The Draft - In A Million Peices
Boy Sets Fire - The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years
Tool - 10, 000 Days

Yep, it's been good.

In no order:-

The Killers - Sam`s Town
Milburn - Well Well Well
The Rifles - No Love Lost
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say.....
Take That - Beautiful World....Yes, that`s right, I like it!
The Fratellis - Costello Music
Snow Patrol - Eyes Open

Ones To Look for in 2007:-

The View - Hat`s Off To The Buskers (Which I`m listening to :D)
Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City (Which has already leaked)
Jamie T - Panic Prevention (also leaked)
Little Man Tate - Man I Hate Your Band (again, leaked).

Little Man Tate are awful :p

The rest are alright, Jamie T's album is ace.

I'm looking forward to

The Horrors
Hadouken!
Neon Plastix
Klaxons
LCD Soundsystem
and The Rakes

Gotta say:
Mastodon - Blood Mountain

after that:

Iron Maiden - Matter Life Death
Static-X - Start A War (this year i think)
Hundred Reasons - Kill Your Own

Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of This Country
Cat Power - The Greatest
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

Haven't got too many CDs from this year though, mostly worked on everything Pre-2000.

I agree with your first and last choice as a tie for Best Album.

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Muse - Black Holes & Revelations
Kasabian - Empire
The Killers - Sam's Town
The Holloways - So This Is Great Britain?
The Fratellis - Costello Music

Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Kick Your Ass
Mogwai - Mr. Beast
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones
Cat Power - The Greatest

Those are the ones I really like.

Wolfmother - Wolfmother
Best first album I've ever heard from a band ever ever ever

I'd give runner-up to Broken Boy Soldiers by The Raconteurs

Wolfmother is like a Hendrix cover band that covers songs that don't exist.

Bitter Tea by The Fiery Furnaces
Nisht Azoy by Black Ox Orkestar
Enter by Russian Circles
Goodbye, Lucille by Feuermusik
Mr. Beast by Mogwai
The Eraser by Thom Yorke
You Are There by Mono
World Container by The Tragically Hip
Spry From Bitter Anise Folds by Fifths of Seven
IBM 1401, A User's Manual by Johann Johannsson
Your Mom's Favorite DJ by Kid Koala

Not Technically Albums:

The Albatross Mates For Life, But Only After A Lengthy Courtship That Can Take Up To Four Years: A Four-Song EP by Matson Jones
Fab Four Suture by Stereolab (It's a compilation album.)

Of all of them, I'd probably award best-place to Mr. Beast, Bitter Tea and Eraser as a three way tie.

Midlake - The Trials Of Van Occupanther
Some By Sea - On Fire! Igloo
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Thom Yorke - The Eraser
Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche

This is all in no particular order, of course. It's been a nice, mellow year, which is nice.

Woo! Another classic "post one" music thread :)

Off the top of my head, Incubus - Light Grenades would probably be my pick. I've mostly been checking out some older music this year though. Still, some pretty good releases.

Little Man Tate are awful :p

I'm looking forward to

The Horrors
Hadouken!
Neon Plastix
Klaxons
LCD Soundsystem

I`d never heard of them before a the album leaked, but I like their album, don`t know about their other stuff.

I just don't think they're that great is all :p
They've been around for ages, nothing special tbh

Oh wait.

I'd actually say: Bob Dylan - Modern Times.

I didn't like Modern Times, and I'm a huge Dylan fan, sounded too rockabilly for my tastes

The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine
I have literally been listening to the entire thing over and over for the past month or two. Every time I think I've found a favourite I find one I like more

'10,000 Days' by Tool by far.

Tool - 10,000 Days
Probably Tool's best album. It takes a long time to grow on you, but once it does, it won't let go. The drum and bass grooves the band is known for are what really make this album, and it dispenses entirely with the angst-wankery of the previous stuff. Makes the back catalogue look like Linkin Park.

I agree 100% with everything said here. '10,000 Days' has grown on me ever since it was released; it has grown to one of my favorite albums ever published.

"Hello Everything" by Squarepusher

Really only because I only bought a few new releases this year and nothing else really stands out to me. It's not genre-changing. It's not explosively new and innovative. It's not even his best work. But it's good. Damn good. And that will suffice.

Tool - 10,000 Days

I mean really, although it did have its fillers, it was really cool.

I really haven't given the album the time of the day. It's a good album, but I feel I have somewhat neglected the 'second half' of the album, whereas when I put it on it's just so I can hear the bass parts to Hello Meow and Bubble Life.

It lulls in the middle, but the second half has some good stuff. "Rotate Electrolyte" and "Welcome to Europe" have some wonderful melodies to them, and "Plotinus" (my favorite from the album) has a great sci-fi aggro vibe to it. Explodes nicely at the end. "Modern Bass Guitar" you can get really into or disregard purely on whim.

Appreciation of the last track sort of depends on how much you care for a lot of the musique concrete stuff on Do You Know.

Oh yeah, 10,000 Days was pretty awesome once it grew on you. Also, noone's mentioned the Chili's Stadium Arcadium. Another one that seemed pretty lacklustre at first but really grew on me. It's not totally consistent throughout, but given the size of the thing (far more complete than System of a Down's "double" album and not released a year apart) I think it's a pretty momentous effort. Definitely prefer Jupiter (disc one) to Mars though. And it's not an easy one to listen through in one sitting...

Which reminds me, I still haven't really given the new Audioslave or Mars Volta albums a chance. Listened to each once through and didn't do much for me...

The Aggrolites- self titled album

One of my favorite bands ever. Best reggae.

Somewhere after that would be-
The Slackers- Peculiar
not my favorite album of theirs, but the only one out this year.

And I don't know any other albums that came out this year. FTW!

rRRRRREGGGGGGAAEEEEEEEEEEE FROM THE GHETTO

Tool - 10,000 Days
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Les Claypool - Of Whales and Woe

Oh, I completly forgot Claypool had a new album out. It's good, then? I'd rather the new Primus came out, but I'll have a look for it all the same.

I'll have to vote Mindless Self Indulgence - Another Mindless Ripoff

I didn't find many good songs this year, let alone a good CD.

Good and completely funked out as always, definitely worth picking up- highlights for me are; One Better, Filipino Ray, Of Whales Of Woe and Rumble Of The Diesel.

Primus' new album should be awesome, anyone know an expected release date at all?

TV On the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
I absorb stuff in such a random fashion that I hardly feel like I've even paid attention to a lot of music in 2006. That said, All three of these albums really impressed the hell out of me.

Havn't heard too much new music this year, but Pink by Boris and Silent Shout by The Knife are really REALLY good.
