Alphabets please help me!

Off course I know my alphabets.
But I am new to this very game "HALF LIFE 2". I heard about the console build inside so I was playing with the console built in command and I ended up with something that I didn't want.
When I kill someone in the game I get a yellow astrick on the screen. When I change my weapon I get alphabets instead of the weapons picture. Like for Crowbar I get a "C". For pistol I get a "d". I gets annoying after a while. I know its not suppose to do that because I played the demo version and that one didn't have the alphabets.

Can anyone help me.


I am not sure if this question has being raised before or not because I couldn't find it when I searched.

It sound like you have the "Alphabet" virus, made by angry Grammar Nazi's back in '05. It is a form of punishment for people with poor spelling skills, but sometimes people from countries where English is not the first language are affected too. You will need to burn your hard drive, and smash your monitor to remove it.

LOL. I've never heard of that problem before, although occasionally people do get strange symbols instead of a graphic to represent some weapons in the hud. Try validating your steam files -start steam, go to games, right click on the affected game, click properties, cache?(can't remember the tab name- it's one of them anyway), then verify game files.

Very strange indeed. Welcome to the forums - hopefully someone else will be able to help you, because I haven't the vaguest! (although I think Shasta's on the right track).
