Nobody's questioning why Gordon was pursued in the sequel.
Evidently not as the marines had to pull out between Freeman and the Xenians. As you say though, I doubt Gordon would be able to handle heavily armed marines in RL. But this is just a game.

If real world logic doesn't apply to the game (which it doesn't), then I don't understand why you were trying to use it (ie. military forces could wipe out Race X if one corporal could). The argument, placed in the context of the game, just isn't valid.
