I don't actually believe this but I thought it would be good to bring it up. In OP4 you learn that the marines were being trained for a mission in BM. But you also find a load of voltigore nests and infinate spawning pit drones (pit drone nests?). Maybe the marines were being sent in as pest killing squad? Then the black Ops were sent to deal with the aftermath of the RC.

All those marines, plus tanks and artillery? On top of the air elements, for pest killing?
Maybe the other way around.

The Marine's bullets hurt me quite a lot in Half-Life... and Blue Shift. They were there to silence the facility from the beginning. When they failed, Black Ops were there to silence them. The Mission was always the silencing mission: the G-Man was involved, so they knew that the RC was going to happen. Black Ops were probably already on standby to kill all that survived post-"Forget about Freeman" (when the Marines pull out).

its still not clear to me what the black ops attended there. i just remember a vague quote of a black op , he said something about the marines not knowing whats going on and they also talked about a package.

Opposing Force is part of HL saga (and Blue Shift and Decay)!
And Half-Life 2 (and Aftermath, Lost Coast) is created for MONEY!
If you like free games, Half-life is not for you....

Lost Coast will make money in the future by showcasing what the Source engine can do to potential game creators, so they will want to buy the license to use the Source Engine.

However, I cant see how releasing it to us will make money ;) .

Oppossing Force, Blue Shift, and Decay are part of the Half Life saga, Marc Laidlaw has confirmed that.

oh man i really hope they are really part of the sage althought they were kinda weird . theres much storyline hidden in opposing force. and i liked race-x . isnt the imagination of another xenlike world great ?

The marines were there to grease the joint. when the resistance from the aliens and the survivors got too much they did what made military sence, pull out. after the vast majority of the marines had been extracted the black ops were sent in to destroy the facility with one of the many nukes/thermonukes still stored at the Black Measa Facility.

they went in with the intention of simply cutting a path through the aliens and remaining humans (marines or otherwise) to one of the atomic weapons, placing it in the optimum location setting it and getting the hell out. they did not assist the marines or tell them about the mission because they needed to work quckly and it was simply easier to kill them (well thats what they tought when they went in, anyway). also informing the marines may have comprimised the mission as they would need to be extracted aswell as the black ops and if this wasnt forth coming the marines, who by now had been in black mesa for quite a while and so knew the layout could have made things very difficut. also close contact with the marines may have comprimised the agent's identity and so they would have had to kill the marines anyway

Not to sound like an ass...but I thought everyone assumed this at some point..
