When I am playing Half-Life2: DM or Day of Defeat, when I search for servers to play on, my mouse will often freeze. Sometimes it will let me get as far as to play the game for a while before it starts to freeze.

:frown:

I do not believe it is my mouse hardware, because:

1) if the "Browse Servers" selection window is open, and the mouse freezes, I can hit ALT+F4 to close that window. Then my mouse will work fine in the main menu, but if I try to select any of the menu options, the mouse will freeze again.

2) if (somehow) you get to play the game before the mouse freezes, in the middle of the game, it will just stop letting you move the mouse. The mouse buttons still work, but there is no movement.

These symptoms only happen in Half-Life2 games, such as Half-Life2: Deathmatch and Day of Defeat: Source.
The mouse works absolutely fine after returning to Windows.

If anyone can suggest anything or has seen this before, please let me know.

Soooo...
What kind of mouse do you have?
I have a HP mouse.
I swapped the LED light from Red to blue.

I doubt this anything to do with it, because those problems don't happen in Windows. Only in Deathmatch and DoD.

I recently upgraded my video card (9800 Radeon Pro 256mb) drivers with the newest Catalyst software. This might have been the start of my problems.

but what am I supposed to do? the standard is to always have the newest drivers.

maybe i do need a new mouse. :x

How long have you had the mouse? Some mice tend to flip out and go nuts after a few years of intensive use.

And MX1000 mice sometimes give some problems because of a button that has been binded wrongly ;)
