Behold, the infamous HL2 e3 vid complainer is back!

When I was watching the section with the Ant Lions and the crane, I watched Gordon shotgun the Lions, and they gibbed. It looked really sweet and realistic the way the pieces flew. The problem with this is that there just wasn't enough jibs. These Ant Lions are hearty creatures, raised on dry lake bed sand and prison tile! There should have been a little more stuff when they jibbed.

Don't know about that. They got one hard shell.

Not necessarily. Alot of people that get blown a long ways by some explosion don't break apart. It all depends on where the explosion was: was it right up next to them, or was it near enough to hit them with a concussive wave but not actually rip them apart?

That would be a great question to email Valve about...... I think I'll do it

if somebody in real life would get hit in the chest with a rpg,you would only fin him with a microscope.

It jsut isn't clear that it hits him. The very first frame with the explosion shows him well outside the actual fire radius of the blast.

Combines suits could just be strong enough to not rip apart from the explosion.
Thus, he could be hamburger inside the suit, and we might never know the difference. Ouch.

true, I guess just visually (at least to me) it looks like he should gib instead of ragdoll a football field's distance away.
I guess its down to preference, its such a moot point but it can make quite a difference in immersion.

my main concern is that Model gibbing is in for all models (not just specific ones, like zombies and ant lions.. that that anyone or anything has indicated such)
perhaps there is some threshold that we can adjust to how much damage a model has to take in one instance in order to gib.
or something.

Well, the truth is that human bodies almost never 'gib' when a bomb explodes.
If the area is open and nothing is blocking your way, the shockwave gets to you first and sends you flying through the air. If there is a wall in the way it is possible to be 'gibbed' due to the extreme concentration of the explosion that would occur.

In a outside area like that and with the rocket exploding a few meters away, there is no chance that he would ever gib.

I work as a bomb-technichan so take my word for it.

I do, as I said, it just looks visually wrong. its Preference.. but honestly it means nothing. its the difference between seeing some cool ragdolled gibs, or some cool ragdolled dude flying through the air.

I guess Im a little sadistic in that I want to see some form of damage, see in games we cant see flesh being ripped off, or specific pieces being blown off, so we get gibs, its not realistic, but its more realistic than the flying cartwheel guy. (it looks like a ragdoll to me.. not the physics term "ragdoll" I mean a doll stuffed with cotton)

I think you need to watch this trailer.. especially for sick bastards like you :) http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_bloodrayne2_e3_2k4.html

I think it is kind of fun to watch people flying like this, unrealistic, but fun.

gibs make it fun... I would like to blow combine and a zombie up and weld their body parts to different places and make a new character. Then I would weld alyxs dead body parts to my buggy or myself.

I have seen that advert, and it looks over-done... thats not really what I mean.
however I am a sadistic SOB.... guess what does it for me is, the more realistic the gore ... the better. I dont need over the top blood, like some horror movies where someone kicks their toe and about 18 gallons of blood spurts out.

Than you are fan of Soldiers of Fortune 2 or what not? I don’t know, for me, it got old after 10 minutes in a game, and I stopped noticing things like that.

we atleast need the old half life skulls in it which have half the skin left on it with one eye and a missing jaw...

It was always weird having your own skull stare back at you...

Don't you worry, what you are asking for can be modded, and i'm sure it will be done.

You can pretty much split the head if you like, it's all up for the modders.

i love the gibbing but this rag doll stuff can be annoying, it'd be nice if they spasmed around the floor for a bit if you only shoot of a leg.

that would be sweet

A near miss of a rocket will not send somebody into thousands of peices :P However, a direct hit will, and a near miss will send a few limbs flying :)

Yes, a limb or two would have been really sweet.
