Antlions

I was wondering. Where did the antlions come from? I have 3 theories, both prolly incorrect

1) They are part of the xen race and were to lazy to get their ass to black mesa in hl1.

2) They are another alien race the combine encountered somewhere in the galaxy and they thought that these creatures could be of use. So now they are being used on earth the same way as the headcrabs, to keep the world outside the citys unsafe.

3) they are nothing more then evolved cockroaches

Anyone has any official info on the origin of these beasts?

Ask valve they wrote the story. They probably didn't explain anything.

I don't think the game ever explains where they came from, which is too bad. I guess the Rasing the Bar book has the answer, though.

Well, the Vortigaunts know them pretty well, and know how to fool them with those pheropods and whatnot... I reckon they came from Xen (they also have the standard Xenian yellow blood).

Not a sure thing, but I think it's a reasonable chance.

I would say that number 2 is most likely to be close to the truth. Also it's what I think
