If the maps actually live up to to the size they are saying they can be(16x that of hl1 multi maps?)...it may be decent, but Id rather not have them

Don't hate me its just my opinion:cool:

Well, in MY OPINION it is good to have BIG maps with vehicles. So there..

My idea of a big map is in WW2OL where it will take 4-5hrs to get across the map.

I wouldn't mind having vehicles in multiplay as long as all the processing for the vehicles is done clientside. I'm still running 56k and vehicles would lag me badly, but I do have a decent machine so Vehicles done clientside present no problem. I DEFINATELY would have no problems if it were on LAN either....

No problems with vehicles at all as long as there are multiple game modes (which I'm sure there will be) to allow some smaller maps with no vehicles in those other game modes.

I love combat with vehicles and combined arms etc but I also like urban comabat in mp games so I hope there is a range of game modes and types.

If there isn't at release there soon will be due to the mod community

I just wish they code something that would hardcode ban the wonids of those certain people who ruin the game for others.

Yeah, I hope they have a new system that your wonid can only work on your computer or something like that :).

Anyway...the vehicles, you can tell that idiots are gonna spam with them, I bet there gonna run thier own teammates over or take them far away and leave them there

Anyway, shockwave, it takes 5 minutes to drive accross a map in HL2 :D

with steam you have valve_ids...WONIDS are no more, they are not in HL2. So the way i see it is that since with steam you have to sign in this is going to make it almost impossible for keygens and so forth.

Basically you sign in through username and password to access your valveid.

I'm a BF42 addict, so of course I'm into vehicles.
Battlefield works as a good example because there are massive vehicle necessary maps like El Alamein as well as very small infantry maps such as Berlin and Stalingrad where vehicles play almost no part.

I think that there will be a wide variety of map types. Hopefully there will be a good mixture of confined close-quarters maps and large open vehicle maps. I'm sure that valve will cater for many peoples preferences :)

a. you don't know that (bull)shit for sure.
b. 95% of all people who are going to purchase HL2 will get it through the store not via that godawful excuse of a download manager, Steam.
c. there are -always- ways to get around that. always.

And we dont know what kind of vehicles we will be driveing and you never know they might give us Bumper Cars to fool around with.

Well, there is not a lot of people playing it, so dont bother wasting bandwith!

Yes i do know that for sure gabe said it himself that valveids are the new thing, there in dod retail also as first game to sport them. If you purchase a game via steam then what i said pertains to signing in to your valveid. But if you buy it from a store you dont have sign in

I would also like big maps, but not as big as WWIIOL's. I like El Alamein in BF1942. You also feel safer in the vehicles.

Some of it will obviously have to be done server side (like running into people or shooting/being shot). If they could do all that clientside, it woould work for people as well and there would be no lag :)

movement speed is the same as in HL1 he said so it may be possible that the characters in Hl2 multi are faster than the cars themselves..lol

Would be good if you have to drive to an ammo dump or something. Plus it would be cool to shoot rockets at people driving those things.

Steam ****ing roxs!

Anyways, Vehicles would be great in multiplayer.....Vehicles are great in any game.......DRIVING DRIVING DRIVING

Flying would be a great addition to. The flying in BF1942 was very fun and I could play that game for hours.

i bet the first mod out is to allow play without steam multiplayer.

I've never like games with vehicles because they seem to distract people more than anything else and they spend the whole time trying to learn how to drive em or run over their teammates.
But I will wait and see how HL Multiplayer plays.

Hehe, in bf, people just camp to get those damn planes. Takes away from the gameplay.

uh incorrect shockwave...speed is decreased.

Scripted Sequences will be more interactive.

ALL objects in the game world are affected by the physics.

Movement speed of HL will be retained.

There will be drivable vehicles in both single and multiplayer.

Known locations: City 17, a harbor, a jail, the suburbs, a dried up ocean, an icebreaker ship.

Vehicles in multiplayer will definitely need to be used smartly. Imagine teh possibilities with things like CTF, and using vehicles properly in clan matches. And all-vehicle deathmatches ooooooooohohohoho...

I personally think that vehicles are going to rock in the game!! This said i also really like just good old deathmatch. I will be annoyed if every single map has vehicles on them as it would get a little annoying after a while but i think it will definatly add to the overall game having them on some maps...

"Movement speed of HL will be retained."

Way to contradict yourself!

ditto.

My entire argument is as follows:
Did you ever play through Half-Life?

The gameplay makes the game. The graphics make it better.

P.S.

I'm excited about vehicles in multiplayer, I wanna see some guy driving along in a dune buggy, shoot him in the face, and watch him go slack as the dune buggy prattles to a stop... It'd be funny if somehow they made it that it kept on going cuz his foot was still on the gas ahhaha.

anyone play NOLF2?? vehicles were used to a limited extent there... I don't think it negatively affected gameplay... BEsides, in a game like HL2, without discreet level transitions, it's makes for the possibility of more realistic, and diverse, environments, which darn well oughta be a good thing...

multiplayer seems the same. as long as it doesn't encourage or enable hide and go seek type crap (at least in a game which has gameplay to contradict that, like CS).

anyone play lets_go_take_mothers_tank??? (or any number of other cs maps with vehicles, i.e. pod races or whatever)

ever get run over by some idiot on your own team (or for 4 rounds in a row)

as long as there's smart enought designers, good enough controls, etc. to prevent that, it sounds all good...

i hate in cs how with ff some @$$hole teammate will fire at your head and shoot you until you're under 10% health yet still alive. That way they don't get an auto ban but they still did damage to you. And sometimes they'll fire at you once in the head from across the screen where you can't see them and when you turn around they're gone. I hate that so much. Wait a sec, that reminds me of what I do...

Friendly fire is fun when you want to relieve stress and watch people get annoyed :) I dont play CS much but in the latter days when it filled with new people who got the retail game i did that for a bit.
