Yeah...so I'm totally stuck making this friggin HL2 Countdown timer. I have some Actionscript thrown in there and its sound syntax wise, but I can't get the dynamic text to display.

I know this has to be a simple setting or error I never set right, so if someone is willing to go through and help me find it, fix it, and publish it, I'll send you the .fla file through email (I'm not posting it publically).

I would appreciate it.

did you draw a text box? select it and in the properties window on the left side there's a drop down menu: set that to dynamic text ..hope that helps ..let me know

Yeah...but that text box (which is dynamic) is defined as a Movie Clip...if I could execute this in a dynamic text field without using a Movie Clip that would be great, but based on what I grabbed off FlashKit it needs to be in a Movie Clip.

ok is the dynamic text inside of the movie clip? on a seperate layer? oh and make sure you put the name of the variable in the VAR field in the properties window ...when I get a chance I'll try it myself and try to replicate your problem ...btw did you see the countdown desktop timer someone lifted off the net?

it works and can be displayed on your desktop, instead of needing a browser or flashplayer

The code counts down time based on the time from the client computer. The text box is in the movie clip and functions perfectly fine. Hell now its displaying "_level0.display.display" once i figured out the name and the variable are two different things (duh).

Edit: Got it working now. Just forgot to define the text Var. It'll be finished and uploaded soon for all to gander at. Thanks Farrow.

ahh I see, so basically you want your little countdown to spread like a virus and permeate people of all walks of life so that you will be forever immortalised as the countdown-to-half-life2-link-guy? ......a more noble cause you couldnt have picked, you are my mentor :E :thumbs:
