I just starting using temporal aa 4x, and its pretty much the same when i played with normal 4x aa. Can anyone tell me if it truly works and helps to speed up the performance?

I play with it on 6x TAA, and it runs much more smoothly than with regular 6x, especially where there's water (Go figure??). I never notice the so-called shimmering effect during gameplay, so I really see no point in having it off.

I've heard quite a bit of this temporal AA. Is there a setting for it in HL2 or do I have to force it at the driver level?

I wish I had Temporal AA, sadly I do not.

It only works on ATI cards. Basicly switches between different patterns to give the impression of higher level AA yet without the performance hit.

2x Temporal AA looks like normal 4xAA yet with only the performance hit of 2x. You need higher framerate to make it effective as vsync will be enabled.

What is TAA? Never heard of it thb. Is it that AA where it takes random sample points per pixel?

If you're not getting a framerate higher than your vertical refresh rate it won't be doing anything. When it is working it should look like it is using twice as many samples (because it alternates between two different sampling patterns). 2xTAA is supposed to look like 4xAA... but if you aren't getting a high enough framerate 2xTAA will just look like 2xAA.

I think you guys have got it wrong. 2xTAA would look like regular 2x AA when it's working, but in fact it would only be 1x for each frame. Therefore you get a framerate boost. The way you guys are describing it, you wouldn't get a performance benefit over regular 2x AA. But you DO get a benefit.

If you have temporal switched on in the ATI driver setting what do you put the ingame HL2 settings on?
