Time Warner's AOL internet division is buying the social networking site Bebo for $850m (?417m) in cash.

Bebo is the third-biggest social networking site in the US, behind MySpace and Facebook.

AOL says that Bebo has more than 40 million members worldwide who view an average of 78 pages per day each.

Anyone else here use Bebo? I use it quite alot, but didn't expect AOL to buy it.

No surprise really, AOL is a large player that never really tapped into the Social Networks until now, wise move for them.

You're not surprised? I would have thought a company like Yahoo would have done it. Yahoo are serving ads and the search engine for Bebo, so I would of thought they would've bought them.

It seems, however, I was wrong.

I've used a few of these kinda sites and Bebo seems to be the best made. Facebook is maybe better but that's for more private networks.

Willie: Master of acronyms, destroyer of convention. Also, banana rape.

Bebo is shit. I form this prejudice solely based on the fact that my brother and sister are completely and hopelessly hooked on it, and from knowing the kinds of people they consider friends (fiiiiiive hundred of em OOOOOOPPPHHHHHHHH).

Why use Bebo when Facebook is clearly better, I've never understood it. If so many people use Bebo then why is it that everyone I know is on "myface"? Lies lies LIES.

I guess Bebo is designed more for teenagers, whereas Facebook is more for people who just left college or something. I use both, but I use Bebo more often than Facebook.

what's AOL?
European? You guys probably don't do the ISP, "AOL" then. It stands for, "America Online". :P

AOL is a shitty ISP with shitty customer service and rates. Plus, I thought AOL was on the verge of bankruptcy, so how is it they can afford to buy anything after such a massive fail streak? :|

Oh, and AIM sucks too. :P

Everyone under 30 in Ireland is on Bebo, me included. I never use it though. I haven't checked my page in months.
