about the hl2 preload. If it's starting at or around the same time as my cs:s beta becomes active won't it slow down my experience drastically or will i actually have a hl2 symbol in steam on which to click to begin preload

We've yet to see what valve has done to steam so it won't get bogged down, they may have fixed it, we haven't seen a major release form valve since CZ.

why would you download while you're running CS:S? it's not like the day after HL2 preloads it'll be released ..my guess is that you'll have several weeks before HL2 is released so you'll have plenty of time to pre-load

yea i'll probably hold off about a week, and just enjoy CS:S.

whta like stop at 36% and then come back and start at 36% again? if so i believe u can alrdy do this.

ya me too, steam should have an automatic computer shutdown after it's finished loading ...like the newsgroup browser Grabit

the whole point of my q. was to find out whether i had the option or whether hl2 was gonna slowly dl whenever steam was on.
