Best Buy release date speculation

Apologies for another release date post but I thought someone might be interested. This is from this Sunday's Best Buy circular advertising the new 9600SE and the bundled HL2:
"Expected release date of Half-Life 2 is this holiday season and is subject to change."

The subject to change part is kind of a letdown , but still if they weren't more than 50% sure that it would be released this year then they probably wouldn't say anything. Maybe.

I'm gonna be nice to you. Retail companies don't know any more than we do what the release dates are. They often make them up. Best Buy is no exception.

I'm tired of these lectures about speculating on the release date. What else is there to do? This was posted in the SPECULATION forum and it's a valid piece of information. Killjoys need not even browse this section of the forum IMHO.

Ok, but you're talking as if you've got some special piece of reliable information that we haven't seen posted a million times over. If you wanted to speculate on release dates, why didn't you post "Hey, what do you all think the release date is?"

I don't want to get into a circular argument here, so I'll just comment one last time on this. I posted this info because:
1) It's new. The Best Buy ad just came out today.
2) When a company puts something in actual print I think it carries more weight than a web posting.
I wasn't asking anyone to speculate on an actual date and I never said this was some sort of "exclusive" info. Geez, just trying to put a drop in the community bucket. Why does everyone have to get uptight about this crap? If there weren't new posts this forum would die.

I saw the ad, too, and I agree. I quite positive it'll make the holiday season. I even saw the same thing in CompUSA's ad. I'm willing to bet I'll find more, if I sift through the paper.
But that's not going to happen.

Ouch, i say we all just listen to Gabe and wait for September to roll around again. Then if it does show up early we can be all excited and happy about the early release, rather then begrudingly accepting.
