What's happening with this mod? All seems to have gone a bit quiet for some time now. Is it still in development? I hope so. I was looking forward to this mod above all others. The chance to play through HL again ....... but as nature intended it in Source. I hope the gameplay remains faithful to the original. that's what I miss the most in HL2.

Afaik they're still chugging away on it...

Still in progress so far as I know. Now let's both of us run before Samon gets here.

Aye will be a great add-on to the series, i would like to play Half-Life again but since the graphics and the engine and everything is sort of out-dated (dont lie its out-dated) I would only be able to play it like 10 minutes at a time. So we get to see Half-Life1 in Half-Life 2 graphics and engine, great stuff ;)

I predict middle of 2007 release

Seriously, with such a large undertaking by a group of enthusiasts, worrying that it's "still not here" is going to make sense only by about 2009. I fully expect its release in 2008.

2009? or even 2008?! Is it still going to be of much interest to anyone by then? The whole point of it is to have the original game with an updated engine i.e. Source. Source would have moved on a fair bit by 2008/2009 no doubt. We'll need another mod to update things to the new improved source engine. Unless maybe they can add new graphical features to the mod as & when they become available like Valve do with CSS for example. that would be good.

They're still going strong, no need to worry. They've also talked about an update which shouldn't be too far off.

Dogboy, remember that they are remaking the entire Half-Life singleplayer in the Source engine. This is a huge project that's being worked on and it's quite obvious that it'll take a long time before they've done with it. Also they need to work on the multiplayer with co-operative support.

Sure I appreciate all that. I was just thinking it would be nice to hear what's going & maybe even see some more work in progress. The web site is very good but its not been updated for a while now. So looking forward to this one.

Same here, and like I said they've talked about an update a while ago so I hope we'll get to see something new soon.

I was starting to get worried myself when they were told to remove "source" from the title of their mod ... man I sure wish someone from the mod team would post something to quell my fears.

u have to bear in mind that there really is alot of work to be done, more than many other mods, but personnally i'd say late 2007, and I hope to god the bullsquid is a different color, i never found it to be very convincing myself

release early release often is the mod mantra

too bad they all ignore it :(

No samon bashing! i'm deepy shocked!

and i think there supose to have a media update pretty soon, but when they say soon they mean next year

...... speaking of long time coming mods, what happened to 'They Hunger - Lost Souls'?! When it was announced they said it was almost complete didn't they? That was yonks ago. What's the go there then?!

They can take all the time they need...

It most be the most endaring Mod ever announced. I guess Valve worked on HL1 for about 2 fulltime years...excluding writing the engine.
These guys do it in their spare time in an engine that allows and needs more detail. And it's not just builmding the Levels. It's the Ai, path finding, noclip,...and debugging...I do admire their persistence...Or maybe they never knew what they started ;)

Respect respect is all I can say

Anyone nagging about when they get to play it should be very very ashamed...

Weak. Weeeeak. :P

Singleplayer needs just as much playtesting as multi ever did, but its best to get it playtested before release. Still, release a small map, take in the reaction, fix stuff for the next one.

I think they should transform this into an episodic experience. I don't know which chapters would prove to be good beginning and ending points, but I'm so anxious to play this. It's okay if they have a lot of things to tweak with how the overall game works, but if they just need to finish the last fourth of the levels, it would be so awesome if they released the first few batches of levels in episodes.

good idea, mostly because HL1 was longer than HL2 so a full release would take way to long

We're still working - it just takes a long time, that's all.

Why are we talking about the Black Mesa mod like it should be episodic content? I want to play it from start to finish when it's released, 'nuff said.

Uh.. I don't know why you say that seeing as all you'd have to do would be to wait for all the episodes to come out. They might even combine them all into one download just for you darling.

Also it might be finished quicker that way. With the team working all together on one section they might not lose interest. Seeing their game come to form faster and such.

well in your defense, isn't that how they released Substance? Newest version added a level or whatever. But for some reason, releasing it as, like, capital-E Episodes just seems like the wrong thing to do to HL1, imho.

Minerva too. He's combining the past episodes as he releases them. I think it would work out well personally. It's a damn mod after all; they're not risking much when compared to an actual professional developer.

i totally respect what there doing and its theyre mod, so they can do what they want with it when they want. But i really really really wanna play it now! (childish whiny voice). A new post on theyre fantastic website might be nice as well :p

I'm still not sure why they decided against ec. Seems like it would be a great thing for a mod this large.

I wish they put in Mrs. Azian Vance getting killed as it is never seen, 7 I wish to see Eli getting his leg eaten' by a bullsquid then trying to keep the Young Alyx safe. It would be so cool, Eli trying to save what left he has.

But Alas, they Won't because they said it would add complications to it.

I wish they would reconcider, it would be so awesome to watch as it is an unseen part of the story...

I would rather they just stick to the original.

Then it just become's a graphical update, no new puzzle's to challenge the player as it is been there done that. Doom 3 anyone which was just a Graphical update, nothing more.

Id like just some new puzzle's here & there because you know what to do as you've already played it. It looses its replay value.

You'll be saying to yourself "hmmmm, This puzzle looks oddly familiar. I know what to do!"

My two cents.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather see Valve do it...

I agree wit hboth of you.

Third party development of some thing like HL1 is so so. Leave it to VALVe they are the one's that make the story.

I think after their all done with the Half-Life series "The Freeman adventures" they can do a complete remake & then some of HL1, with more character interaction...scriped seqences, cinematic physic's, etc...
