I've always noticed that textures ahead of me on the ground are blurry until I am close to reaching them, and as I advanced further the line between clear and blurry followed ahead of me.
But it's worse and on walls as well, in Half-Life: Source.
Why is this noticeable? And can I stop it being noticeable?

Go to video options, and change texture filtering from bilinear to trilinear, or one of the anisotropic options (higher = the blur starts farther away).

I'll try that. It kinda gets annoying when I'm trying to have fun but I keep getting distracted by this line in front of me. :P

This same issue also bothered me, but I've gotten used to it. I can't use anisotropic filtering because then I start getting all kinds of weird artifacts.

If you are running an older videocard, anistropic filtering can put a nice dent in your framerate.
