I really really really don't want this to sound like I'm just being an arsehole... But I think you should learn to take better photos and un-learn how to make hideous photoshop filters on top of them

what exactly do you mean? they were done with color curves, contrast adjustments, hue/saturation etc...

Thing is, filters or otherwise, some of the effects do look quite unappealing to the eye. Or perhaps just mine, and on the flipside maybe some people will like them. But from my own opinion I'd say better your learning at how to use things like contrast and saturation if they are what make you happy.

I do quite like the black and white Chernobyl/M16 London building image with the cranes. There's an artist I am studying for my final year of art called John Virtue who works with bleak, monochrome landscapes. He doesn't work quite so detailed but you may want to have a look at some of his work in regards to that image.

The building with the cranes is nice. Everything else is not nice.

The top two are PiP's, the last few were shitty, I don't like them to much, and John Virtue's stuff looks like splashes of black and white, but its interesting

Uh... you use those things to make the picture look better, not turn them into pieces of ****in lemur shit.

They pretty much are (black upon white canvas, nothing more, nothing less) but don't let the technical side of an area put you off or sway any kind of feeling. Your Chernobyl picture is very simple in that the colours hide a lot of detail save perhaps the cranes but that means nothing to me when it gives off such a bleak, desolate atmospheric emotion. I like that. The cars... not so much, but then I don't have any interest in motorsports, but the Chernobyl/MI6 picture has a pretty strong presence to it which catches my attention. To me, at least.

EDIT: Oy vey, M16, MI6...

I too like the Chernobyl one. Not so much into the other ones.

I can't actually comment about any of the artistic endeavors because I don't have any talent to draw from.

nice stuff, I especially like the industrial factory thing

Take your mouse of the Filter menu in Photoshop.

It's not for that.

In fact, Filters are not meant for anything.

Seriously.

Or, at least, for photos.

Subtelty is definitely the key. Don't make anything you do obvious. And anything you do do, just make sure you're just touching it up lightly.

Best place to start.

What are you on about? These are ****ing awesome!

Fail.

Photos are okay- filters and effects are TERRIBLE. Please, never use the fill tool or extreme contrast, or any sort of filter again.

Chernobyl looks good but I'm afraid most of the others are quite unpleasant.

Filters are absolutely lovely for textures. And almost always atrocious for photo edits.

I <3 plastic wrap for specularity boosts and wet surfaces.

As a newbie to Photoshop, I would recommend taking your finger out of the Filter Jar.

actually, I use Gimp, so there isn't a filter bar, unlike Photoshop, although I am sure that certain features are counted as filters

EDIT-I have been toying around with Threshold, what do you think-
utg_ak47b.jpg

Would have been cool if you drew it, but otherwise, its something anyone can do really. Moving a slider doesnt really count as art.

Boat-many things mixed in (no filters) I was trying to make an apocalyptic sky, but it looked like a crappy filter...

Take whatever filter/effect that is making the glitches appear around the edge of the mast and over areas of the boat. Whilst the dark effect given to the front of the boat looks nice - and I can see a certain stencil like appeal appearing in your work - it doesn't make much sense with how light the sky is. Not to mention that the sky looks odd in itself. Did you take the picture yourself? It's the sort of effect that comes with standard/regular digital cameras sometimes. I'm no techie for that thing, though, so whatever.

For the AK, I agree with kyrnn. The stencil like effect can look nice but when it's just an already existing effect generated in a computer that is just slapped on top of the image it loses it's appeal simply because it's just that - an already made effect transfered with ease to a already existant picture. Unless you did draw it yourself?

EDIT-I have been toying around with Threshold, what do you think-[/IMG]

No. Just no. You've just made a gun black. That's not impressive. If you want to be impressive, you have to draw it, or make it looks such that one might find it aesthetically pleasing. That last one you did looks ok, though. Although I'm not entirely sure what you've done with it. If I were you, I'd zoom in on the edges of the boat and clean them up with your brush tool. Now that's real art.

I know, some of the finer detail seems more glitchy, I will have to adjust that.

?

I had no inspiration, but will definitely get better now that it doesn't take 20 minutes to load one affect.

See, now that's a step forward. Nice photo. I like it.

Yeah, it does looks like a good picture. Did you take the photo as well?

The contrast makes it very effective.

Looks cool, but there seemed to be some filter rape on a few images.

abandoned_house_8.jpg

Right now I am working on a photomerge panorama, but I don't have enough images to make it look right.
I am really only looking for old/abandoned buildings, vehicles, and bridges. If you know of a site that has a lot, please let me know.
The theme is too be an abandoned coastal town that has been decaying for many years.

So far I have- A ship
3 building
2 cars

The last couple have been ok. Black and white thingy, no.

And you might want to post the original next to them. So we can see how awesomely you've improved them :)

I still think Bow is just taking stabs in the dark, i.e using eny-meny-miny-moe to choose the filter.

I see a foto taken in pripyat : / , ... you should be more clear if you took the foto or just edited them, actually even credit the source of the foto.

-dodo

The Lada Riva's, and last two buildings are mine.

most others are thanks to Google Image Search.

Druckles-awesome idea, I'll start doing that.
Naph-I use NO FILTER-get it through your mind.
I never have, I just ****ed up the Hue/Saturation and uber contrasted every image to make it look like crap
