Ok, I've been searching through this forum trying to find an answer to my question, but haven't. My question is, with all these people being able to buy HL2 early due to Best Buy releasing it, among other stores, will Steam not activate the retail game until the 16th anyway? Or are these lucky folks able to play the game?

Basically I'm asking, if someone sees the game at BB, takes it home and loads it. Can they play it now or still have to wait till the 16th.

I'm not to concerned, as I can wait 2 days to play it, I'm just curious.

Like I said, I searched and found many threads about the game being released early, but still am unsure as to whether they can play it or not.

Ah, you have to wait until the 16th. I hope you don't get flamed for asking this question again, and I don't get flamed for answering it again :x !

Dc/Gary

p.s. sorry, but this is a very touchy subject these days.

It will be only activiated on the 16th....even though people are complaining that the game should be released now on steam because people can buy HL2 from some stores...I think those people are morons.

Thanks for your answers.

I was just curious. Everyone seems to be having a hernia about the broken street date. I don't see what the big deal is if they can't play it early.

Thanks again

Imagine your name is Susan. You are Billy's mom. It's Billy's birthday tomorrow. While shopping you see this new fangled Life-game-thingey and the salesman is pitching pretty hard about it. You cave in and buy little Billy the pretty looking box, wrap it up, and give it to him first thing in the morning.

Billy's eyes light up with excitement and glee, this is the moment he has been waiting for ever since all his school yard buddies all decided counter strike was cool and he tagged along to look cool too. He had the holy grail of gaming in his hands, 2 days before all his friends, and so he was definately going to be the coolest kid on the block now! He goes to school and spends ALL day bragging about it to his mates. He comes back home, pops in the disks, installs the game, and then, twitching and jittering nervously like an a 14 year old girl on her first acid trip hallucinating that her cats got up and are doing this, he reaches the end. He sees the shortcut on his desktop, he double clicks, and then...

...

Nothing happens...

Poor little Billy is gutted, his stupid Mom bought him a dud. Poor Mom is furious, because that retarded salesman sold her a worthless cardboard box for $50, and that salesman is well on track to getting his ass fired.

ALL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE DAMN SHORTCUT WORKED WHEN BILLY DOUBLE CLICKED IT!!!

I've never had a salesperson 'pitch' a game to me.
But then, my names not Susan.

At least he gets to play css. The funny thing is how MANY people don't know that you can't play it till the 16th. More so the sales reps. Does it say it somewhere in bold letters on the box "CAN'T PLAY TILL THE 16TH" or "CAN'T PLAY SP WITHOUT INTERNET CONNECTION"?

On the box it says you require a internet conneciton. Thats in the min specs, nothing more. :P

Yes i saw the box, then i mentioned to a employee its not even ,ment to be out yet and told them to try and install it. They did, and all the copies magically disappeard from the shelve :P
