What happen to all the Xen wild life from Half-Life 1? I understood not having them running rampant in City 17 because untill Gordon arrived it was pretty much under Combine control, but still not much Xen life at all in the forest minus the zombies...

I would like to see more xen creatures running rampant.. Also with the next chapter taking place in the artic north are we going to see much aliens at all? The Vorts are on our side, what else could live in the north? Of course they will work in a few zombies somehow but what else?...

They are out there, but I see no reason to bring them in. New stuff kthxbi.

Hmm I've been thinking about it: If Ep3 is going to take place up north, will there even be zombies?

Aren't zombies a weapon of the combine: They send these rockets with headcrabs in them into civilized areas. Wouldn't make sense to send alot of these rockets in to the vast non-civilized north.

The combine fired rockets, yes, but headcrabs aren't the property of the combine, they came from Xen. Therefore, they are likely to be all over the place. If anything, then
they might have gotten there on the Borealis when it was teleported.

I hope they have a new set of monsters in Episode 3, maybe an itchysour, but otherwise new stuff.

Well, remember. Borealis was crawling with zombies, originally. Now, that's likely to be changed, but it could have happened at some point between when the Borealis showed up in the arctic and when it was discovered by Mossman's team. Plus, headcrabs and zombies are unaffected by extreme cold, cold the likes of which would kill a human being in a matter of seconds, so it'd be plausible to see them in the arctic.

And Valve doesn't care about bullsquids or houndeyes. :(

Yeah, but episode 3 has got to bring us some new/new old creatures. Please?

Episode 3 is obviously going to have new creatures. Episode 2 had a fair few; I can easily see 3 building on that. I don't want to see Bullsquids or Houndeyes, though.

Well, if anything, I would HOPE to see creatures that aren't synths. Don't get me wrong, hunters are dead awesome and I am fascinated by the advisors, but man, I'm tired of synths. This isn't synthworld. Where are the remaining natural beasts?

In the arctic, there are so many great Xenian creatures that could thrive there. Just think:

Away from Combine interference, the arctic has served as a breeding ground for Xenian fauna brought in through the portal storms. Though the landscape is sparse for hunting and devoid of vegetation, the hardy Xenian creatures--most immune to the extreme climes of Earth--have carved out their niches in this frozen tundra.

Boids sail on arctic winds while stukabats hunt on both ground and air. Arctic saltwaters are home to leeches, like most everywhere on Earth, but these deep oceans around the poles have become breeding grounds for bays of ichthyosaurs. Schools of archers swim close to the surface of glaciers, waiting for prey to step close enough to be shot down by their spiny darts. And as always, the ever-present headcrabs roam the environment, searching for alternative life to zombify.

But of course, I doubt we'll get any of that at all.

Jack, if you really miss them, you can find them in mods like Synergy and Obsidian Conflict.

Episode 2 spoilers:

I imagine Antlions struggle in cold temperatures so I think the Antlion burrows may well be the last we see of them. Which certainly opens the door for a new common enemy to be seen in the wild.

We know there will be Hunters too judging by the Mossman transmission so I greatly look forward to fighting them again.

I also see the Arctic as the perfect place to reintroduce the Cremator. A flamethrower could be used to melt ice and... set fire to things. I just refuse to believe it was cut, what with all the things being reintroduced.

Also: where are Mortar and Crab synths?

most probably they weren't put into the game anymore because it doesn't seem too realistic for those creatures to survive in our environment/other word I can't remember, but it's basically our air and it's consistence.

Plus, I've never been a friend of those two, they were just too fugly and/or scary.

I request a showing of Mr. Happy from Raising the Bar, or Ivan the biker.

I'm hoping to come across a massgrave where the Cremator's are busily working

At the very least, the Cremators, Icthyosaurs, and various synths we all saw cameos of in HL2 should finally get a chance to be fought in EP3. It's kinda odd for these foes to appear only once to never be seen again.

Well, we know Cremators existed at one point at least, since there's a Cremator head in Eli's lab at BME...That'd be cool to see/fight them.

I certainly hope so. I'm getting sick of Antlions.

Yeah, the Antlions are getting old now...at least couldve hoped for another bugbait...

I want a houndeye pack. They'd be like hunters, except they'd be like... space-wolves.

Crab/Mortar Synths were wiped out in the teleport explosion. At least, those in 17. Keep in mind that simply because you see them doesn't mean they'd make good gameplay simply because they are new.
