Can someone fill me in?

I've been in the city for the last 5 hours and i dunno whats going on

Its validating my game files, CS:S Beta went quickly, now its validiating HL2 and my Steam Monitor says its only acquired 50% (Even though i preloaded every single time a new one came out, even checked earlier today).

HL2 also appears in my "My Games" list.

Why does it say i only have 50% of the game?

Just be patient.

If you Run the game while its still 50% or Less than 100%, you will get missing textures or maps not working, because they arent fully decriped,(or something)

It's on 71% now so it must be downloading a few extra files.
