Well I just got a set of logitec 5.1 speakers and I can't get any 5.1 sound from music in windows media player 10 or any other media programs. I have a creative sound blaster live! 24 bit soundcard. I don't have any problem with surround sound in games which makes this weird. Can anyone help me out?

Using analog or digital to connect the speakers (model?)? Is it DVD music (5.1) or regular music (stereo)?

Good speakers.
I have those and they play my music in 5.1 All I had to do was configure the speakers to be in 5.1 in my audio drivers.

If you have the creative audio console installed, go to the CMSS 3D tab and set CMSS to on. That way it just outputs the stereo music over all of the speakers.

Also, those speakers are awesome, same ones I have.

I have the Logi X-540's + X-Fi Gamer, and they rock with 5.1!

theres so such thing as 5.1 music unless it dvd audio.

I am having this same problem with Vista. Setting CMSS does nothing.

Do you have the absolute latest Creative drivers? Becuase I have Vista aswell and I noticed that on your audio console you have that "Synchronize with control panel" check box yet mine doesn't even have that. Also, in the Sound options in the control panel, I get to chose up to 7.1 even though I only have a 5.1 system.

I haven't checked yet but you see they were working before as far as I remember. My drivers are the ones available at Vista's release.
are all of your sound system wires plugged into your computer?

Yes. In the audio console switching between stereo and CMSS or surround turns the rear speakers on and off but my games default to stereo and will crash if I try to change them to surround.

Just checked. Looks like newer drivers are out. Brb.

The new drivers helped me diagnose the real problem. My rear right speakers seems to be outputting my front left sound. The front left speaker works, but I cannot localize, say a grenade explosion, in such a way that the sound comes from the front left. Instead if I do that the sound is strongest in the rear right. :/
Before I updated the left was outputting to the right. :/
The other speakers are still correct. Rear right sound still outputs to the rear right.

The Audigy series are poorly supported in Vista. I'm not sure about the surround sound problem but things like EAX don't work. The sound processor can't be utilized (yet). Creative is working on a fix for this but the patch won't be free.

For proper surround in games though, disable any crappy feature like cmss, crystalizers, mixers, equalizers, smart volume control, etc. Be sure to check your THX panel for the right speaker settings.

:(
I have a creative audigy 2 with 5.1 kickass speakers that came with the card :(

After updating I cannot disable CMSS. In fact, I have no other choice but "off" which will kill the sound altogether.

Might be time for a new card and speakers. :/
