After much searching, I haven't found an answer.

I want to be able to burn my 5 HL2 CDs to a DVD-R. I understand that you need the regular game disc in the drive to get the game to start, that's not a problem. But I'm looking to simplify the install process so I'm not swapping out 5 CDs.

Any ideas if this can be done? Remember, I have no problem keeping CD1 in the drive, just looking for a way to get the install itself more efficient.

Thanks,
Ian

well, if HL2 is installed you could just use the backup feature in Steam and put it on a DVD. Then whenever you want to put it back on you just restore those files

You don't need a CD or DVD in the drive to play HL2 now

You don't need the CD's to run the game anymore, and if your steam backup feature isn't working (Some aren't), then you can easily just copy the GCF's over. That way you don't even need to install anything properly, just drag and drop the GCF's....

Also, your sig must be 5 lines or less please :p.. Making the admin's job easier ^_^

Wow, this is news to me. So even if I reformat my HDD down the line and reinstall Steam, I can just apply that backup from a DVD (pending that it works) and go from there? Innnnnnnteresting. And even better you don't need a disc in the drive. I'll have to pass this info along!

Ian

PS...I'll fix my sig. :)

if you reinstall steam with your username and password it'll even download half life 2 automatically if it's not on your HDD

The backup feature from Steam works wonders for me :D

This is great! Well I'll have to see about backing it up tonight or so to see how this works. :)
