I have been planning to buy a new gfx card for crimbo for a few months now, but due to financial difficulties, I won't be able to for a few months. My current gfx card is a GeForce 2 MX 100/200, how(if at all) will it run HL2? I know that it is an extremely crap card, but I need to know if it is worth buying HL2.

Thankyou for any helpful replies...

barely, utter, complete lowest of the low. and thats if it does run....some members are running on geforce 2's though.. so maybe.

I'm running it fine on a Geforce4 MX on medium settings @ 1024x768 (no AA, no AF, no shader support :D). GF2MX? Good luck.

I don't think that an MX really counts as a GeForce 2 though... the GeForce 4 MX was just a rejigged GeForce 2, lacking the features of that generation of Nvidia card. I'd say it's too risky to go and buy HL2, bearing in mind that the returns policy on the game is complicated by the fact that steam has centralised authentication, making a CD key useless once tied to an account. If you're definately going to get a new card sometime, think about it... but you may as well just wait until you can play the game with the best graphics possible. As shallow as it sounds, a lot of the thrill of HL2 is in the graphics - that's just a testament to how amazing they are, and not saying that HL2 is otherwise a bad game.

I've played through it twice with this card and it's pretty fun, but I've seen it on a friend's X800 and it just makes the experience 800x more immersive (see what I did there?). Soon as I get this damn 9800 pro working I'm gonna totally relive it :D

Do you mean it will run? I am going to get a new gfx cardsooner or later. All I need to know is if it will play.

Thanks for all the replies

thnx alot guys!!! :)

I don't really care about the graphics... as long as I can play it...

Ming you, there is an advantage to having a gfx card as crap as the GeFoece 2 MX 100/200, every game I buy, I get to play in 'bullet time'!!!!!!!!! LOL

Read my post above the one you quoted, I was talking about the Geforce 4 MX.
