I've given it a lot of thought. I really like how you play the intros etc. But I'd also like to see gordon and Alyx in some jawdropping highpoly enviroment with prerendered sequences. Imagine the action.. :O

they will probably not do it because the real time style is so implemented in both HL1 and 2 and they will probably not change that. I just wonder what other PLAYERS think.. Would you survive cinematics or do you want to keep things simple, but yet beautiful though :)?

Now now, there is nothing wrong with cinematics, I just don't think it's for Half-life. Other games make good use of Cinematics. Mafia, Max Payne, Halo and many many others.

The opening of all the HL games (except Decay) are the best I have ever seen, no cinematics for the love of God. I have grown to hate them.
eg I'm in a generic FPS and have a full arsenal up my ass, I'm supposed to kill this guy, I meat him and start talking, I start to think we're going to sit down and have a cup of tea, then I let him have enough time to escape, grab a hostage etc. If I was there I would have put a bullet in him as soon as look at him. it really annoys me.

Halo didn't have any cinematics - apart from the opening bungie logo?

I actually agree. I think VALVe implemented the real time ingame intro so
good in HL1 og HL2 so anything else would be unnatural, but at least I would
want to see a teaser for HL3 in highpoly prerendered. A pr stunt.

The train ride in Half-Life is still one of the best introductions to a game ever created. It was brilliant in the fact that little things were going on all around you. Look to the left, some guy is driving a forklift, look to the right, a helicopter is landing. It firmly puts you in the mindset that you are some scientist called Gordon.

Having pre-rendered cutscenes just to make it look pretty? You're missing the point, my friend.

A commercial for HL3 then. Imagine what they could pull off :O

What are you talking about, cut-scenes arnt for visual quality, though you can put stuff in them that you cant have in real-time. Their main purpose is to help the stroy line along, and half-life dosnt need these scenes to enforce the plot or twists.

Saying that, I believe half-life does have rendered scenes, for instance when your locked into a area (the train for example) and you look at whats going on, sure you can walk around but not much.

okok, I have put ingame aside now... I'm talking about a commersial or something else in highpoly prerendered. We all agreed HL3 shouldn't have prerendered cutscenes now. We moved on to the next level :)

I do love Halo2 for its cutscenes. but only because they change based on difficulty.

And not as much as they should, either.

I loved Halo1's Legendary into

real time all the way

real time is the best for half-life because that's just the half-life way. i would hate it if they had a bunch of cutscenes in the next half-life game. it would completley ruin the effects that half-life is so great because of. without cutscenes you get to experience the game as if you were there, instead of just some spectator.

Maybe for a commercial...but putting you in a cinematic in game takes away the HL experience.

Although Mechanime around HL2 would be awesome.

Mechanima too.

the only cinematic type thing i'd like to see might be something where you are no longer in control of gordon but are still looking though his eyes. Sort of like how they did it with the "you got knocked out" part of the game in the original hl, and how they did the gman intro in hl2. Only instead of using ingame graphics use higher poly type stuff. And not to do it in the middle of the game, maybe only the beginning or the end.

but whatever i don't really care either way. I like cinematics like the battle on the amerigo for starcraft, and i like first person interactivity like hl/hl2

Your eyes get gouged out and you now have to view everything through a remote controlled scanner thing which automatically picks the best time to go into cinematic mode.

Que?

HL1 and 2 didn't have cutscenes so its too late for Valve to put them in a sequel without annoying everyone.

actually, you know what might be interesting

if in the very last half-life game they did one of those slideshow type endings, like after the credits. The kind that tell you what became of everyone

like Civil Protection Officer-1456 decided to settle down and become a family man, and opened up a pizza place

Alyx- Ended up marrying a trucker named Bubs, she became a waitress at a diner and after giving birth to 7 kids put on about 80 pounds

Lamarr- Became a tv star on the show "Lamarr and Me", much like lassie, if lassie were a horrible alien parasite.

Stalker #1289-continued to wander about in a lobotomized state of unease

DOG- was eventually upgraded into a large metal cabinet to hold a medium sized tv for Alyx

Gordon- was once again put into stasis again, not so much because of the g-man's manipulations , but because Gordon has no people skills other than staring creepily at people, knocking over stuff, breaking boxes, getting ackwardly close/very far, and jumping on tables. People were sort of fed up with him so they secretly voted to toss him back into stasis so as not to have to put up with him.

The Gman-was really gordon from the future, OH NOES! And somehow feels good about bullying his past self. He later becomes a representative of the Happy fluffy kitty cat food factory. "aannnnd if, yoooour catssss, do not like, our, Haaappy Flufffy, Kitty Cat fooood, yooou get yourrrr money, back......*stares menacingly*"
