Im off to college, and my little fujitsu lifebook fried. While I already have a desktop, I may need something more mobile if I cannot work in my dorm, need to save time in a lecture, or just surf the net while eating a cheeseburger. My first obvious question is: Do I need one? Secondly: Should I get a tablet for that whole neato pen thingy.

Ive never had to go laptop shopping, so I dont know whats a good deal or not. My basical (min)requirements are that it must work. Prefered specs (not necessary) are swappable drives, good all round performance, ablity to watch movies. Also, if anyone can guide me to a wireless card that can work with any choice, I would much appriecaite it as I have no knowledge of wireless tech and standards.

get an intel cored mac book - much better option all round with decent gaming capabilities as well

I just got a macbook - best computer purchase I EVER made.....even betten when I built a fancy AMD dual core rig a few months ago.
Get an intel macbook. They are priced reasonably, and OS X is amazing, and fully compatible with anything windows. It was easier to add my mac to my windows network in my house than adding another windows computer.
