The way those CPs and soldiers communicate is rather strange. Let's discuss.

For instance, the CPs' PA system said that there is "local outbreak". I guess there is no disease or pathogeny. The "outbreak" is rebels' activity. i.e., they regard rebellion as disease. So the CPs have to "sterilize" the citizens by beating or somewhat, so as to heal the citizens of the "disease". But I don't know what "sterilize field compromise" refers to.

I assume it means that a previously-secured area has been infiltrated?

Pay attention to the city voice. You can hear interesting things like that.

You didn't answer my question. I'm asking to try and help understand what it means.

Random fact: The Combine use an altered version of the Military Alphabet.

Could it possibly have said "Sterilization Field Compromised", possibly referring to the ability for people to reproduce?

What about the other supression device in that one building near the end of HL2? Y'know the one raining down bolts of energy?

That is more like a mortar. The combine use the word "suppress" to describe multiple things (I can't remember exactly what so don't ask.)
In the instance of the Nexus suppressor, suppression means killing and has nothing to do with the suppression of the human reproductive cycle.

you mean "a"pex, "k"ing?

Combine rearely uses the word "suppress". It is too negative and shows that combine is a dictator. Surely, combine doesn't want people to have such a thought.

You have to admit, though, in this case "Suppressor" sounds better than "giant mortar cannon of death."

No, because the supression field that shoots lasers at you is different from the surpression field that prevents reproduction.

Hm, I'm actually thinking sterilize, like sterile, which probably mean different things. nvm.

A kick in the balls could also be considered a sterilizer.

Sterilizer is the Combine term for turrets :P
The Combine never call the Nexus mortar a suppresion device, only Barney.

Coulda made it up.

Could have also been a previous name for such a device before the Combine realised it sounded mean and nasty and upgraded to a nicer name, like "Rainbow generator" or something.
