Could it have been a good thing that the combine came to earth. The combine remind me a lot of us and the path we are headed down now we ruin the enviroment, strip the earth of vital compounds for our own means, and we are becoming more and more reliant on macines pretty soon humans will depend on machines to do everything for them. Anyways in the game the combine came to earth and we saw how horrible things can become when we are to reliant on machines so could it be a good thing that the combine came to earth? did the citizens learn not to become too reliant on machins? Or have the citizens become impressed with the combine technology will they slowly become the thing they hate?

Being an example of what could happen isn't the same as being a force for good. Quite the opposite, actually.

As to whether humans have seen the error of their ways through the Combine, who knows? I think at this point, they're more concerned about escaping control than they are about becoming dependent on machines and sucking up resources.

I know the combine aren't good but them coming to earth could have been a good thing.

Not to flame, put theres lots of evidence against this theory.

Let's see....the Combine is on Mass Genocide...druging the water...Breen is "delivering" Earth to the Combine...

Totally.

Earth a wasteland, humans nearly extinct, whats left enslaved, transformed into stalkers and augmented into the Combine ranks. Such a good thing.

lol yeah but thats a good thing because humans won't go down that path now. All I'm saying is that horrible things like this make people realize how bad things can get. if the combine hadn't invaded earth don't you think people would have gone down the exact same path as the combine.

Seriously, I think it's very safe to say (we all know this by now I think) that the Combine are evil scumbags.

Hi, just wondering... the stalkers, are those white guys right? Do the metro police and other troops look like that undernith, or are they just slaves, and the police more independent beings?

You see what the overwatch soldiers are like underneath in Nova Prospekt. Civil Protection officers are generaly believed to be brainwashed people(though not by all and not proven). It is said in an anouncment by the Overwatch lady that higher ranking officers go through memory replacment:borg:

Stalkers are humans that get everything that is "uneeded" removed. They also have vertain brain functions removed, such as thier memory.

In an odd way, the Combine are doing what's best for us. :O

F*ck over ourselves or let the Combine do it much faster and more efficianly, hmm...

Or, if we didn't resist, become part of a larger empire. The Combine, according to some Laidlaw quote, don't take prisoners - but when Breen pleaded, they let us live, and tried to get us to integrate peacefully.

I remember that aswell. First time I've seen someone else referencing it though.

That is possible. But isn't it just six and two three's?
More like six and half a dozen.

I can't personally see the plus side on enslavement and not being allowed to breed.

I meant if you were to look at it the way he was looking at it. Obviously it'd be better to keep on going, rather than be enslaved by the Combine.

This viewpoint doesn't get us anywhere. Ever since their very beginning, human beings used to learn from mistakes made by their own or by others. This does not justify the circumstances itself as being 'bad'. Only beacause you can learn from it for the future, a thing (which is common agreed as being 'bad') is not useful, or good.

I don't believe that the Combine are supposed to represent a warning for human misbehaviour in the future. And it certainly isn't the point of the HL2 story.

The Universal Union may be trying to unify the entire universe by controlling life forms from different planets to destroy all who oppose them (taking away the ability to argue/fight with other brainwashed life forms as well.) once every planet is unified, there'll be no war. To back this up we hear Dr. Breen talking to the Combine Adviser saying something about how big the universe is (something like "vast something stretched out across the membranes, impossible to describe with our limited vocabulary."), maybe his arguing that the entire universe is to big to unify.

"What about the suppression fields?" They probably do this to all the life forms they conquer to stop un-combine controlled life forms from fighting them in the future. “But that would mean fewer soldiers to recruit.” I’m sure the Combine can get down and dirty with each other; producing a brainwashed person that will get all the mechanical stuff the Combine soldiers have shoved in them after birth or whenever the child should have it done.

“But all Combine are men.” Maybe they don’t need to have a difference in gender characteristics. They’d use the male figure as the one they’d use for all there soldiers because it is naturally more intimidating to the humans they are fighting. The Combine may let off pheromones or a sent or maybe a binary signal (seen as they have machines in them) that they use to verify there gender with other Combine.
