So, I said in another <locked> thread, I would do a Combine Sniper Rifle Concept. I know som of you didn't want a 'Really Big Pulse Rifle', but when you think about it, it fires the same bullets (Pulse-like Blue Plasma), so it must (or would 'logically') use the same ammo, and same firing system (kind of). The real problem, ws justifying how when a grenade knocks the user out, the gun doesn't come as well. So a 'Wall Grip' (or clamp) locks the gun in place on a window sill.

ANYWAYS, I'll explain some theorised firing mechanism (because my writing is way to messy)
The Steps coincide with the directions and movements found and numbered on the drawing;

1) The lock is pulled back towards the user, this drags the pounder' back and forces the 'knocker' to lock into place.
2) The lock is pushed down, this locks the pounder in place.
3) The lock is pushed forward, back to its 'rest' position, the gun is now armed.
4) The user squeezes the trigger, which releases the knocker and forces the pounder to strike the 'little bullet thing' (like the original pulse rifle, and it's pounding arm. Repeat Process for next shot.

Yeah, I expect a huge amount of critiscism.

Well... I like it :) Really. Just one little thing maybe, a swithc to turn the laser on/off (or that little button there is the switch? :P) I agree with you that the rifle uses the same ammo as the pulse rifle. (and the last bitching: to be reasonable it needs to have a wall-grip-like-thingy so it wont fall out when you kill the soldier with a grenade... but imho Valve didnt want us to have this rifle in hl2 and ep1 or they were just too lazy, or ran out of time)
I like your drawing though.

Lol, thank you, if you read the other thread, it mentions that we might see the rifle in EP2, definitely wicked stuff!

ignore the Khan arguement

Genghis Khan is not using it. This is disappointing.

Nah, dude, it's cool. I would make the barrel longer, though.

And it looks really hard for the user to bring the sight to his eye, because of the length of the stock. You should look up actual sniper rifles like the Dragunov, to understand the proportions involved.

I read the other <locked -_-> thread, even posted in that... before they started that whole Khan-mess... pff
I'm waiting forward for that rifle, even if we just see it, not use it.
The stock is only a bit too long I think, its okay for me.

It looks like an FG42 with a Trijicon ACOG.

The stock would be better if the scope wasn't so stubby. As it is it would be remarkably uncomfortable to target down the sight accurately. Note that in the rifle magiolle posted, the scope extends past the trigger. This makes it so that you can place the scope to your eye comfortably, instead of having to squint at it from a distance, as happens in your design.

Of course, the rifle could have a sophisticated targeting system which interfaces directly with the Combine helmet. Though it would have to be wired, not wireless, to deal with jamming.

Or transmissions... going through the rifle via induction in the gloves... whichever...

*ponders making his own design*

The stock IS a bit too long. Makes it impossible to clearly target somebody.

And if you make the barrel a bit longer, it'll turn out just what some people have been saying: "A really long pulse rifle".
Also judging the fact that the ammo the combine weapons use, has something to do with PULSE.

And it does look like a futuristic FG-42.

And im not saying it's bad in HL2, but a laser for the sniper, which is so bright and clear, is a really bad thing for a sniper.
The laser reveals the snipers position. Thats why snipers have scopes in the first place, to be stealthy.
In a real situation the sniper would get sniped.

Lol, downloading porn.

Gun porn?

I imagine that the laser is generally invisible, and the HEV suit simply detects and enhances it. Same reason you can see the RPG laser so clearly.

And there is nothing wrong with being an overly long pulse rifle. When it comes right down to it, that's what a sniper rifle is.

WOW O_O
I was expecting huge critiscism on the firing mechanism =\
I'm surprised this is all about the stock, I see what you're saying too, it should be shortened and the scope whould be altered. . . but I held up my promise, and I did draw it with several key things in mind. . . Gimme some time, i might do another ^^

And I'm going to be quite honest, until now, I've never seen or even heard of an FG-42
I've done lots of gun drwings before, and just did this off of what I already knew about sniper rifles etc. . . I just didn't take proportion into account ><

Hey, it's still cool. The scope would look awesome on an SMG.

It looks like something, that would fit on an MP5.
But there arent any left so nvm.

And i meant what if the sniper is so advanced it has (combine)internet.

I think the clip looks cool,very...combine like

That does look similar O_O
I'm also surprised bout how well I drew the combine clip, I thought it looked. . . awkward. . . I'm still rawing the rifle again though, unless some one would rather I don't Oo

Omega, in case you WERE wondering, the FG 42's magazine goes in from the left side of the gun.
Just thought i'd say this, cuz your rifles clip is locked at the bottom like a modern rifle.

>.>
My rifle's clip is a combne clip, which (To my diputeable knowledge) Clips to a bar or something from the bottom and so on. . . so why are you mentioning that Oo. I wasn't even paying attention to the clip either, I was just comparing the body shape and general lengths etc XD

Pic looks great, man now all we need is for VALVe to decide to put one in out of their Half Life games!

Play HL2: EP2, for something extremely (potentially, if they use anything close to this concept) similar to the FG42, in a hellishly good (or highly anticipated, kick ass) game

That's exactly what I was thinking, it looks like a FG-42 *Automatically thinks of Forgotten Hope and BF1942: Secret Weapons of WWII*
