Combine sniper rifle

Maybe it will be in a "defend this position from the onslaught bit?" I imagine one could have fun trying to hit hunters, especially since they move quickly and have alot of health.

As for it taking long to set up a stationary turret, well, look how long it took Civil Protection to put that turret in the canals in Route Kanal. The thing seems quite portable, just a gun and some bars that can be pulled apart to make a forcefield. I'm sure that such a thing would be possible for soldiers to set up as well. I do, however, doubt that the rifle will be pick-up-able, since we've already got the crossbow to fit that niche, and Valve doesn't seem to like clone weapons.

Both of those are wrong Cube and you guys are not to talk about un-released story details from the Benchmark. Cheers!

Maybe it's a rival for the crossbow.
Like you have to choose between them.

Crossbow has more ammo but is slow to reload and it's projectiles are also slower..
Sniper rifle has lesser ammo but is an instant hit weapon and reloads faster.

Naw, I think Valve are the type of developer to let you choose between them at any point. But lets not forget..."Brief appearance."

Zwoops :hmph:

But at least I'm glad there are many new characters around, this time.Yes! I'm looking at you EP1!

I hope the fisherman will come back, throwing crab pots at the combine and using a leech-shooting crossbow St-Olga style! :cheese:

St.Olga FTW.

And the circle of "who eats who" between the Headcrabs and the Humans is weird.

On one hand we have the headcrabs. Those slimy little jumping and shrieking bastards.
So they clamp themselves to a HUMAN'S head and turn him into a zombie...who then EATS other HUMAN'S and stuffs the flesh into the "maw".

On the other hand we have the humans, who somehow capture Headcrabs and fry them for a meal, while commenting: "They don't quite taste like headcrab"...:stare:

I can only imagine the beauty of a combine sniper rifle =|
AND IT IS AWESOME! ! !

NOW, I need a 360, and enough for Orang Box upon its arrival!

Dont get your hopes up Omega. It might not look anything you hoped it would.
I suppose all of you want it to be an Ultra-futuristic sniper rifle with a cool scope and a cool sound and look.

It might aswell be a synth thing like the spore-gun was a living grenade launcher in OP4.
It might move and breathe when you hold it or have eyes or whatever.

You can never know what the people at Valve can come up with.

So, Grizz, you gonna dissect the rifle when you get your hands on it? I'm actually looking forward to the thought of another in-depth analysis of a Combine weapon done by you more than seeing the actual sniper rifle ingame.

Why, of course I will. Firearms are my forte...

So there's a first in-depth analysis of a Combine weapon? Where can I find it, exactly?

Here, I posted it on the wiki after editing the article (you know, formatting and stuff).

Cool article, but one nitpick: orbs can disintegrate anything of low enough mass/density.

It's not entirely obvious (because physprops and so on generally just bounce away) but it explains why Antlion Guards don't disintegrate when orbed and humans disappear along with their clothing and weaponry.

I don't want to edit this into the article because it's quite hard fitting the explanation into the article while keeping it concise. You wrote the article, you should be better at it. :)

Even barnacles?

Nice page, by the way.

I suppose barnacles don't disintegrate because they are attached to ceilings, and appear to have complex root structures that prevent from falling, and serve as a place for digestion. So they don't disappear for the same reason walls don't disappear.

Mmmm, you could handwave away desks and so forth not disappearing due to differences in atomic structure. Energy (dark or otherwise) is conveyed into them (making them bounce around, break apart, etcetera) but due to their mass/density/atomic structure not enough energy is transferred to disintegrate before the ball bounces off. In the case of humans their structure makes them disintegrate quite easily (therefore the ball passes through them, while being slightly deflected) while antlion guards, for instance, are dense and heavy enough that the orbs are deflected away. Orbs explode in contact with striders and gunships due to reacting with their internal generators. It makes sense. Sort of. Of course, you could blame engine limitations, and decide that orbs actually disintegrate anything of insufficient mass.

I love being a scifi fan. Rationalizing these things away is actually quite fun. :p

The 5th one, he kills 2 soldiers at the start and an Elite later with it.

You are talking about the Crossbow... we are discussing the Combine-Awesome-Sniper-Fast-Reload-With-Blue-Laser-Rifle which have never been seen... (the rifle itself)

Still can't wait for it, I have no life, so that same night of my last post, I dreampt I was playing Half-Life(episode 2 I'm guessing) and I found the Combine Sniper Rifle. . . I hope dreams come true >.>

And even if some how they made it look like a Wasp Gun that has a Blue Laser sight, fine by me, I just want a Sniper Rifle other than the cross bow ^^, thought it would be nice if it was an actual gun, like, not organice you know? If I feel like it later, I'll draw what I think it might look like, if anyone else cares to do the same? I'll post them up to, if that's not a problem >.>

Do you guys know why they modelled a sniper rifle especially for this episode? :upstare:

Because people wanted to see it, they probably already had a model file somewhere, and it's plausible for you to come across it? :dozey:

WHAT?! You've found it? Seriously, I'm getting paranoid - are you joking or what?

Don't encourage him Narvi! :D

Because you'll need it >.>

As fun as it is, the pulse rifle isn't the most EFFECTIVE way to kill enemies in a forest, think of it this way, if there's a sniper rifle, there's a scenario for it, and thus, a use. Therefore, we should be more focused on what this can tell us of EP2's gameplay, now, I can't wait. . . ESPECIALLY now
*evil grin*

So no objections to me drawing a possible model for it?
Is there anything I SHOULDN'T do, like, don't make it look like crap, I have some ideas, but I think some one was hoping it wasn't 'a really long pulse rifle'

Go right ahead. After Episode Two comes out we'll compare yours to the actual one, though.

As for its use, who knows? Repaying the favour to Alyx? Assassinating an Advisor? Defending that silo from the Combine attack?

...or assassinating someone from the science team?

That spoiler is actually wrong, I think. I've been avoiding spoilers but I'm pretty sure that's a 'foiler'.

Samon MSN me the link will ya? You kinda deleted it...

Knocking out one of the members of the Sci Team would be fun tho - Hitman Freeman style.

That would be mean.

And pussy-ish.

Don't sit in the shadows sniping (like someones sig suggests)... BE A MAN!!

See, doing that generally means that you die before you can pass on your seed. Meaning you can't be a man, since future generations wouldn't have your imprint upon them. (The most manliest of all is Genghis Khan, whose seed is present in a tenth of all Asians.)

So, logically, sniping is truly being a man.

(Somebody PM me that spoiler link. Curious.)

Genghis Khan was not a man(ly) man.
Unless you say bows were the snipers of his age.

And wtf makes a sniper manly?
Then he'd be a cowardly man.
A REAL man would go melee on the other REAL MAN.
But he'd be a tad bit less MANLY if he would kill a cowardly sniper man.
And the weakest thing of all would be a sniper vs. sniper.
Because that would make the man...

...

Woah. Got carried away there. ()ff t()pic...:E

isn't it "Khant???"

off topic maybe, but I agree, it takes balls to run in and shoot everybody up, and the adrenalin of running around with the wind in your hair and a big weapon in your hands (Not compensating >.>) is much more 'manly'.
Boys who hide in the shadows, or a tower might have good aim, but are too afraid of being killed to run out and risk his life.

It takes a true man to die in battle, and a guy sitting in a tower, as cool as he may look, fears too much and fear. . . is weakness Oo

BUT that doesn't mean sniper rifles can't look utterly awesome and be fun to use, I'd just rather run in, guns blazing and wounds bleeding, that's all ^^

OFF TOPIC!!!!!?

No it's spelled Khan...Genghis Khan. The Great Khan.
Thats not his name anyway. Khan stands for ruler or leader.
His real name is Temuchin.;)

This is called natural selection. You can die, my seed will survive.

What about your stupidity?

Don't enlighten him.

Let our seed survive!

You guys are getting weird.

It's simple: have sex before going to battle.
And THEN kick some campin-ass.
