any techno-wizards know how to replicate the combine voice sound by any chance? or what kind of effects they use?
or has anyone been able to make something sound combine-ish?

Could try talking into a low quality microphone with a deep voice while wearing a gas-mask??

Do a search, there were some techno-voice geeks talking about this once, they knew all the effects used to make the voice, and the programmes they used. Just search for it, quite a long time ago now though.

Found this. Not much info there, unfortunately. I'll keep looking. Hectic Glenn, do you have any clues as to where it might be? Anything to narrow the search?

Also found this on VERC. Again, not much info.

hmm, i think u need too pitch it down, use an flanger to get that weird "liquid" sound, then distort it. maybe an filter to cut the low end

if u mess around enuf with the effects u wil get the effect i guess :)

I'm gettin a gas mask this week for my game project i could do the sounds if you want....

hmm. ideas! hey who the hell is Pretzel anyway? coz that sounds like a good idea. maybe put my mic thru my grunge pedal :p

if you have no gasmask...? :(

How do you make a gas mask pipe with no gas mask? Um, You could modify one of those japanese voice thingies...

does anyone know of anyone successfully replicating the combine voice?

My friend is making a mod and he came pretty close using a sound mixxing board he has.

I walked past some policemen just yesterday. They had those transmit/recieve speakers pinned to their shoulders somehow. As I walked by, they received a message that sounded exactly like the combine radio chatter. I was looking around for an exploding barrel before I realised I was back in reality mode.

Maybe you could speak through a short wave radio, and adjust the sound using a graphic equalizer to further make it sound real.
