Combine WHO?

Hi, I am new to this forum and fairly new to HL games, but they have grown to be my favorite.

I have a few questions.
1. Who are the combine and where do they come from?
2.Are there any references to HL2, the combine, or any events after black mesa in HL1?
3. Who is the GMan
4.Are all combine soldiers mutated humans or are some true alien creatures?
5. Do the soldiers in HL1 have any reference to the Combine?

Im sure I have more questions, but I probably forgot them.:bounce:

Heres a more detailed thing of the combine:
The combine are exactly what there name says. There a combination of many races. When Freeman killed the Nihiliath(notice how he had mechnical parts on him), the combine new that something big happened. Citadels dropped down from the sky(I think), and the combine attacked earth. In 7 hours Breen got earth surrendered. The combine eat earths reasources away for there own purposes, and to screw around with the humans brain+mechanical parts to fight.(Effectively killing the human race and getting resources).

1) You are wrong. They are a superhuman sluglike race from another planet that rely solely on machines for life support. They move into other planets and "combine" their sluglike forms with the planets inhabitants, thus creating combine versions suitable for takeover of that planet. The striders are the combine from another planet, the gunships are a combine from a different flying type planet, and the overwatch are the human version of the combine.

2) Partially correct. The combine used the dimentional breach to invade earth, and engage in what was known as the 7 hour war.

3) We know that he can use slowtime warp to keep sort of "contain" his subjects till he is ready to use them. That is how he brough Gordon to the future. He slowtime warped him back in Black Mesa, then brought him back where he was "needed".

Otherwise, we don't know.

4) Read my answer to number 1 for a partial answer. In short, the Soldiers are true Overwatch, while the Police can be either people who willing signed up for the position (in return for food, shelter, and sexual favors. No joke, listen to the radio relays) or were brainwashed and forced into it. The CP's are NOT Overwatch.

1. The Combine are an alien force that is composed of many species modified to fit their needs. Humans as Combine soldiers are their latest addition.
2. The Combine are not mentioned in Half-life 1 and we can only assume Black Mesa was destroyed and only Eli, Kleiner, Alyx, Barney, and the Vortigaunts survived.
3. No one knows.
4. The Civil Protection guys at the beginning of the game are normal humans who uphold the law. Combine soldiers have been mentally re-programmed to be more efficient killers. Also, there are Stalkers, which are humans with severed limbs replaced by stilts and hooks, who are forced to work for the Combine. They kind of look like living mummies.
5. No, those are marines sent by the government to secure Black Mesa, kill all witnesses and capture Gordon Freeman.
