Ok, i felt this needed a thread to address. There are, in essence, only 2 main reasons people are grumpy about L4D2- Episode 3 not getting the attention, and the fact that its going to cost money for something valve might*** have been able to do through good old DLC.

Other than that, look at this for what it is- A SHIT LOAD OF NEW LEFT 4 DEAD CONTENT OMGZORS!!!11

But what i would like address is the episode 3 issue. Now if im not mistaken, im pretty sure valve works in several teams, like each team works on a certain product, like robin walker and his team was and still is developing tf2, and valve south does Left 4 dead franchise. And the kids that came from Digipen who made portal are doing Portal 2. The rest, and probably the same guys that did the other half life's, are probably doing episode 3 at this time. its not like valve works as one large team and focuses on one product at a time. So really, its not like l4d2 interfered with episode 3 because an entirely different team is working on it. And they arent slowing down the episode 3 team probably. So i dont see why everyone reacts like Omg! l4d2? oh no! now episode 3 wont come till another 20 years! valve can work on both ya know?

***might, because considering they are upgrading the director and capabilities of the engine, it might not have been possible to just release through DLC

Generalizing much?

There are plenty of us who are grumpy about L4D2 because it looks bad.

HAHAHA! AMEN! No one wants to agree with me, but I think L4D2 looks sort of weak. I mean, it looks OKAY, but not SUPER awesome. Three things I think are the biggest disappointment to me about L4D2

1.) The new characters- I wish they would have followed the four original survivors instead of creating four new ones! Maybe follow the survivors as the infection progresses in time (sort of like the resident evil movies). The RE movies were garbage, but it's interesting to see how an infection like that would progress over time.

Also, I just am gonna MISS the original four! They were awesome in their own special way. LOL Bill was a badass smokin' vet, Francis was a wise-ass and hillarious to listen to, Louis was hillarious, too ("oh, man. This is just like Counterstrike" = classic!) and Zoey was too cute, but still a tough chick.

The new characters look lame. The fat southern black guy, the random scrawny looking chick, someone who looks like a cheap pimp, and some dorky white dweeby kid who looks like a ripoff of the scout from TF2

2.) The storyline itself= if it takes place during the same time period of the original L4D, that would be WEAK! Same story different setting is a lame way to approach this! Once again, if they were smart, they would set the story in the near future. Instead of 2 weeks after first infection, it should be something like 2 MONTHS after first infection or 2 YEARS after first infection. Using the same timeline, in my opinion, is a cop-out to not have to come up with a new story.

3.) The weapons. I'm sorry but the melee weapons are LAME! I understand that having the magical stacks of unlimited ammo in the original was pretty weak and unrealistic, but how are you going to make your way through a HORDE of zombies with a baseball bat, fire axe, or FREAKING FRYING PAN?!? Even a chainsaw wouldn't rip through a horde as quickly as an auto-shotgun.

I do think that L4D2 will be cool because of the improved graphics, and the inproved AI director 2, and the actual daylight setting will be cool, but I'm not optomistic about it holding the same place in my heart that the original does. :)

The L4D characters are meant be ''boring'', per se. They are normal people in a dire situation, much like a office worker and a grumpy biker are. That said, we don't know much about them at all aside from how they look and Valve have said they are going to be exploring their personalities even more than the original four - the L4D characters have personalities on their own with nothing more than dialogue banter, now Valve are going to expand even more upon these elements. That's got to be a step forward.

I'm pretty sure it's set a little after L4D. I recall Chet, or someone, said that the zombies have been in the open a little longer and are as such faster and a bit tougher around the edges. Signs of decay and removed limbs also indicate time, and I recall something about the fact there are specialist Hazmat zombies that, to me, means the military have regrouped and attempted clean up operations. That last part is pure speculation on my part.

Find me some saying where the melee weapons are the core mechanic of the game. You are putting it across here that they are vitally important when if we throw a little common sense into the mix, you'll find that things like the shotgun are obviously going to be your go-to weapons but now you've got some melee weapons as backup. You still can rip through hordes with an auto-shotgun... why do you have some idea that the game is going to be meleemeleemelee? I'll say that I don't quite like the idea of a chainsaw, but if Shaun of the Dead has taught me anything, a good blunt object is going to be pretty ****ing cool.

No problems here. :D

It's just that I read one story (I think IGN or something, I can't remember) but valve was staying that it was going to be more of a situation where you have to rely on objects around you to compensate for a lack of ammo at some points (I'm assuming it'll be like half-life 2 where you have to get creative with the gravity gun when your ammo runs out. But instead you'll have to look for objects you can beat zombies with). Also, a lot of reviews for the original said that the original was weak in the fact that it lacked melee weapons; so I think that valve is trying to make up for that it L4D2 with a bunch of different melee weapons.

I still think the game will be cool and kick some ass, but it'll just be a downer for me, personally, if there are a lot of different parts where I have to use melee weapons; because, for me, melee weapons are not that awesome or iconic or something. As soon as I get a gun I'm over the melee weapons (like ditching the crowbar in HL and HL2 as soon as you get the pistol) LOL.

You still have the pistols with unlimited ammo. The melee weapons are mostly supposed to be fun, and axe + new ragdoll physics looks fun.

Actually, one of the main weapons of World War I was a shovel. It was far more effective than the bayonet, as with the bayonet, you had to pull it out again. A shovel just decapitates the guy. Yes, autoshotgun is probably more effective, but some of us occasionally enjoys melee weapons.

Very much this. Either way, those are interesting new enemies. I wonder if these will make the pipe bombs too strong in comparison to molotovs. Then again, we don't know if we'll get other explosives to carry around, and none of the gameplay videos have shown pipe bombs yet (molotov cocktail has been seen).

Also this. The popularity of the characters are going to be almost solely reliable on how good the writers are. And since some of these writers were also responsible for Left 4 Dead, Portal and Team Fortress 2, I'm not really worried. Hopefully the voice actors and animators will do it justice.

Give me a crowbar and I will looove the melee weapons. I'm really looking forward to the expansion, the new settings, new and better story. Man I can't wait!

What you people are forgetting is that what we saw at E3 is a BETA, in that ITS NOT DONE YET. If you people go back and look at the beta for l4d1, you'll see that francis resembeled rupert from survivor. So i can safely say that the charecters are only an attempt, and are by no means what we will see in the final game
Secondly, people are whining about how the sun is out. As Doug Lambarddi (lol i cant spell) said somewhere, the southern US has a very scary feeling right as the sun is going down, and i can vouche for this. Also they said that there will also be maps where its night time.
And to the people who feel cheated out of new content for l4d1, they're on the verge of releasing and dlc, and this one is supposed to be bigger then the first.

The only confirmed future updates (that I know of) are the SDK, Matchmaking 2.0 and Community Maps. The SDK and MM2.0 should have been out months ago.
