concole not working

I am stuck and need to turn god mode on, but the console will not apply the god mode after changing cheats to 1 and entering god! Any suggestions?

You're stuck in HL2 Deathmatch?

I'm going to assume you're talking about just regular HL2.

To be clear, the command to turn on cheats is "sv_cheats 1" without quotes.
There will be a message indicating that the value has been changed.
Then, you can type god (in the console again) and it should say godmode on.
