Hah, beats the hell outta the video I posted. How old is that one then. :|
 
If it runs as smooth as a source game, then i'll get it. BF2 is choppy as hell.

BF2 also runs gigantic outdoor-style vehicle-centric games. Source doesn't have to deal with most of that.
 
Well, the video was pretty good. I'll wait and see how it turns out though.
 
Sounds like a direct competition with Quake Wars.

Something that looks like an ANT
Very similar weapons (although that is relatively unavaoidable in a future shooter)

Well it's not like they had to work on the technology and the game and the same time, only the game....

Oh, and THE MENU SYSTEM IS REDONE AND HAS A BUDDY SYSTEM NOW TOO :thumbs:

Graphically, I am going to say Quake Wars is superior (though the new explosions look cool in BF2142!)

Gameplay wise, they are different.... Battlefield is still capture the points, and Enemy Territory is all about different objectives still...

Though the Battlefield guys said there is a new gameplay mode coming, so maybe it will be objective based mode, to directly compete with Quake Wars...
 
The first half of the vid was boring, the second half I liked. But to me it looks like it's modded on the BF2 engine. As already mentioned, BF2142 will prolly be to BF2 what BFV was to BF1942.

Humm, you know, I think it looks like a squad based Uneral T.
What EA needs to do with the series is to make a system where gamers must follow the squad system. Period.

Why should similar weapons be unavoidable in a future shooter? Shouldn't future shooters have a wider diversity of weapons than shooters based in the present, since the latter is restricted to weapons that we already have now, where as the former can be whatever your imagination defines.

Trailer looks great. Just wish they didnt get these things out so fast. It looked like it needed some work on the engine/gfx. Still be buying it no matter what.

why don't ea just give a bunch of money to the [original] developers of mechwarrior [2/3] so we can get [another] decent mech game.
 
For the record, all we have is some vague info suggesting Fall 2006. Its possible that its not the case at all.
 
I think i'm going to like this battlefield from the looks of the video. Bring out a demo! :P

i'm in the same camp atm tbh, i just saw the pcgamer vid, the whole mech thing doesnt really interest me, one of the reasons i like bf2 was its semi-realistic premise and setting, real weapons, vehicles etc....WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY KUMBULA!!!!!!!!!!!!?????*sobs*
 
I'd be more interested in this (futuristic) than BF2 (modern).

Yes its the BF2 engine, but its been modified, tis like when they did BFV. Had a modified engine with a few better things/tweaks.

The scream in the trailer seemed an awful lot like the Stalker scream to me
 
Why does everyone think that new Battlefield = new engine?

This engine is still pretty fresh, and can still hold it's own... They redid the menu system so that should be fixed, and more than likely they have been optimizing it for a year now, so it should get better performance and hopefully load faster.

It's actually sort of annoying reading that everyone thinks I photoshopped this all together. LoL, there are some really smart people in this world! [/sarcasm]

They think that I made an entire new article for PC Gamer, made a mod for BF2, and then made a trailer, a bunch of concept art, etc etc... Just for an april fool's joke.

Jebus.
 
Well, I'm dumb, I just realized we had a trailer. I wonder how they can balance the mechs and the good ol' Mobile Infantry, if not, everybody will be using the mechs.
 
I hate lasers and I hate mechs. And whats with the smaller number of classes?! I want my machine gun!

But those soldiers look kewl. :>
