Convert vmt back to tga?

Ive looked around for this on google and tried to here but the search function doesnt like 3 letter words.

Anyway, I'm trying to get some of the valve textures so I can edit them to be used in my map.

Maybe its something really simple but I havent figured it out.

Use gcfscape to extract the textures you want. Then use the vtf converter or photoshop plugin to edit and save them. The converter is in your sdk folder, and you can search for gcfscape and the plugin.
