Could anyone quickly guide me or link me to a good source on how to make images usable textures in 3dsmax?

I guess I need to convert them but I don't know how. :(

Thanks,
Mutley.

What do you mean exactly?

You can slap any image onto a model in max if it supports it. Are you on about making it tile properly?

You know the list of materials, you can apply to your model? If I have a JPG image I want to use, how do I import it into 3dsmax to use as a material?

select, diffuse map, then get material and pick file (I think, it's innate for me now :p)

then search down he menu until you see a file location slot, click browse and find the image, 3dsmax natively supports thopse formats so no conversion needed

In addition to shinobis advice you need to open material editor where you find the diffuse slot ;) You can find it from the top panel or you can hit 'M' :D

Thanks for the help, I found where to go but I can't open a JPG/image file. I only get a choice of:

*.mat
*.max
*.drf
*.chr

In the file type box. :(

Select your object/model and go to the click on the Material editor icon (four coloured spheres).

Click on one of the grey spheres and scroll down until you see "Maps". Open this menu and then click on "diffuse". In here a list should appear. Click on "Bitmap" and a dialog box should come up asking you to select your texture.

When done, click on the icon with the sphere and box with an arrow (top of menu) and then the checker box just right to that. Your texture should then appear on the model.
