How about someone makes a DM map of the Ivory Tower from The Never Ending Story...now I don't know much about mapping so this is kind of like a request/suggestion.

I do not understand how that map woud look like at all. But then again I've never seen this thing before.

But what I do understand is that you will have to be very kind to VIS to make a map like this one run.
 
Yea, sorry I couldn't find more pictures of the inside...if you watch the first portion of the movie then you can have a good idea of what the map would look like.... and who is VIS?
 
VIS is not a who but an it.

VIS is a part of map compile where the compile tools try to figure out what can be seen from where. If you are in one place of the map there is no need to render what is out of your view. VIS does that.

With a very open layout like this one VIS usually has a lot of touble because an open map means that VIS will think that pretty much everything can always be seen. And thus pretty much everything will be rendered always = lag.
 
ahh, i get it. Well i'll try and find pics of this tower from the inside so you guys can see what the map should look like.

lol, i've tried several tutorials and it just never works out for me. I can't find a freaking tutorial on how to build a room OTHER THAN A GOD DAMN BOX ROOM, it's annoying the hell out of me. For this map it's all essentially curves and stuff.

Most tutorials out there suck because they're way too vague.
 
Haha.... true..

The reason for this is simple. Once you go bigger than a box your map starts getting specific. And since tuts aim to be all-covering none of them cover any of the specific parts:)

But if you want curves and stuff. Build a box room and makes sure it compiles and then use primitives and clip and vertex manip to move on from there. And do post your questions.

if u want the ivory tower thing to be just a reference in ur map, u can make it a 3d skybox using xsi. dont ask me how, but i can direct u to some good tutorials. but if u want the tower to be the main map, its gonna take a hell lot of time and energy....:rolling:
