This thread is for you to share effective battle tactics that you quickly thought up and performed while playing Half-Life 1 or 2. I created this in the first 2 minutes of thinking to do it, so this is a minor one I can recall:

In Half-Life 1, right at the start of Surface Tension, I heard the marines talking. I crouched and moved forward, and saw the the guns of two marines waiting on either side of the doorway. I readied (is that how you spell it?) the crossbow and the shotgun, hugged one wall, and shot the one on the opposite side with the crossbow. The next second I charged the one on my side with a double-burst from the shotgun. I was slightly proud of myself at the time, even though a 6-year-old could probably do it, and people probably do something similar to that every time.

Regardless, share!

hop + shotgun to face + hump dead body

Wow... quite an accomplishment there...

Sometimes I skip the hop + shotgun to the face.

Catching grenades with the gravity gun and firing them back.

Old but it still works.

I caught a grenade with my nose once.

my favorite thing to mess around with is the crossbow, i try and see how many walls i can bounce it off of before i get it to hit the enemy, ive done some crazy shots, onces i only wished i could do again since they were all lucky :) but its jsut fun to mess around with it and see how much u can do. Its especially cool when the combine is behind cover and u manage to bounce the bolt and knock him in the face, then they do a nice backflip of death.

Crawl with some big object, at them, and then shoot it under their legs, the flip is hilarious.

If the enemy has no visible strategy, attack with a small and evasive force and watch the enemy. His response will give away his strategy.

Using the crossbow to stick people to roofs, (in DM also) if some one is higher than you, on a platform, run to the edge and shoot them from underneath, sometimes they will be stuck to the roof for all to see.

My favourite thing in single player, was getting the crossbow on the grassy knoll with the wrecked cars, zooming across the bay and shooting out the chocks from under the wheels of the car, causing it to fall in the sea, cutting power to the forcefield allowing me to cruise right through the area.

Didn't know you were able to do that (the power cutting thing). I love the crossbow, but it only carries 11 shots, so I save it for sniper situtations when I really need it. The magnum works, as well.

personally i prefer the rpg, but hey...

Nades are incredibly good for medium-long range, because if you throw it far enough, it does huge damage and your opponent wont have time to react. On 2fort, it's the best thing since sliced bread for smoking snipers.

(In the sense of sliced bread being the best thing for utility among us, before someone PUNS that.)

I also only just realized yesterday that you could roll them across the ground.

I like to deck out a room with slams and then go into hiding up high somewhere with a crossbow and a mag and wait for the rabbits to come to my trap. this way, if they do not hit my initial slams, i will just xbow their ass. and then i always have a few slams ready to detonate if they go anywhere i dont want them to.

and then of course the grav gun/grendade combo is always wonderful.
