pretty sure it was
we were told the second preload was sounds...people using frap have confirmed that the names of the "uncompressed audio" had HL2 character names and such...
when CS:S strats my firewall says HL2 is trying to access the internet...

what do ya think?

they say a locked copy is on our machines...possibly the other peices are in the other Steam games and have yet to be uncompressed? or need small add-ons to activate?

I noticed some sounds that looked like they would belong to HL2 but that doesnt mean anything.

It was a CS:S update, not another portion of the HL2 preload. A list of changes is on the front page.

we know that but there were some sounds that looked like they didnt belong to CS.

About HL2 showing up on your firewall CS uses the HL2 executable so thats normal.

CS:S runs on the HL2 engine. Its just part of the normal process for running CS:S.

When starting css for the first time since the update, SMT, there was a list of files being processed for a sound cache.

It was going just fast enough to spot the odd few words. I noticed Eli and dog pop-up, but what this means could be anything.

why is there no update news on steam yet then?

i know that the CS:S uses the HL2 engine...uh, hello, it's CS: SOURCE

I thought sounds and textures and such were already in the pre-load?

I think you just answered your own question :P

It's obvious that the CS:S update was not part of the HL2 preload, because why would they distribute it to only people who have access to the CS:S beta?

uh, beta?
this whole thing is screwy...they are slowly releaseing things to ensure that their work is uncrackable. IMHO.

here's my thing.
i have the ati voucher dealie...
i play halflife, and all the other games that came with it.
but the only .exe's anywhere are hl2.exe and steam.exe...
starting CS:S prompts firewall for HL2.
All others say HL...
uh..either CS:S is part of HL2 in more ways than a beta test, or steam is part of HL2. Something has to differentiate between which files are used to load the game. They are using the same executable....

it doesn't matter what hl2 files you get with a CS:S update. if its not an official hl2 preload, its not important to those who want to preload halflife2.

Nice one Nancy Drew now see if you can solve the one about the dumbass newbie who just doesn't get it.

That is because CS:S uses the HL2.exe to run, just like CS, which used HL.exe.
